He looked really good mechanics-wise in his second pro day.

Oh he looked real good

There are a ton of interviews from the QB coaches that have worked with Lance recently.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WE0ZXxEqR4

This is one from McEvoy and Hammer that confirms Lance never got exposed to ANY formal QB training until a few months ago.

You can see a dramatic change from his game film to the 2nd pro day.

He already fixed the elongated motion and the dip before passing
In his 1st pro day he had some footwork issues like not getting enough depth on his drop back (3 yards instead of 5)
In his 2nd pro day he had already fixed it and was getting a good 5 yards of depth on his drop back

I think we will be pleasantly surprised at how much progress he has made when he hits the field

I think Kyle's comp was Drew Brees who runs like Lamar Jackson. if Trey can be 75% Drew Brees and 75% Lamar Jackson-- that's pretty close to Steve Young right there in my book.

As for his mechanics, I think you can have bad mechanics but if you know where to throw the ball (before the ball is hiked) that's 90% of the game right there. Even if he just narrows it to man or zone, with his arm talent, that to me is a huge advantage versus the defense. So far I agree with NY85, his mechanics look good.

Nice thanks for this!

It would have been great for him to have a full season this past yr...more reps is best case BUT these 5+ months have probably been just as valuable for him. All this time to fine tune his mechanics with a bunch of the top QB gurus.

A double edged sword there, he misses a year and we position ourselves to get him, or he plays a full season and balls out, at which point he may not be available for us at #3. Beyond that I agree on all the above. So nice to have a guy with unlimited potential, mentally and physically, and, by all accounts, possessing an innate drive to become the best version of himself.

might've gone 2nd overall tho. him not really playing last year may have been a blessing for the Niners if this kid reaches his potential.

Maybe it's because he was the only other dual threat qb the niners have ever had with a strong arm? Probably normal to compare him with a familiar qb. Just a thought...

Steve young says hi...but you know

That was Kyle's IDEAL QB. Not Trey Lance's comp

I think kyle said something like that too lol. IMO if he stayed he's the #1 pick next yr.

What does that matter?

You can watch Kap in college and watch Lance and see what they were asked to do and clearly see they are not the same player.

I'll bet money if he was white you wouldn't say Kap at all...it's a lazy stale comp.

Absolutely do not bring that BS white vs black b******t in here. Leave that out of sports.

And his body type height speed and frame does look like kaep. Between the ears remains to be seen but he absolutely has the same build

I'm not seeing it at all. Lance is sturdier looking. Kap always looked like a toned muscle on a stick. They certainly don't move the same way, either. Kap had those deer like long strides.

And in terms of the throwing motion, not even close to the same.

Lastly, in terms of between the ears, it's not about raw intelligence, it's about football IQ. Both are smarter than average — MINIMUM — in terms of normal intelligence, although Trey seems to be on another level. But Trey was calling protections at the line as a freshmen. He is far more advanced than Kap was coming out.

Anyway, I won't accuse you of racial bias based on this take alone, but I WILL accuse you of not doing your homework on this, or not having a very experienced eye for these things. Because there is very little that Kap and Trey have in common visually. It's only in very top level abstractions that they are similar (both strong arms, both are mobile, that sort of thing).

EA Sports better be paying him for that.

Please Trey, don't shame yourself by associating with that train wreck of a game... except for money .
I've watched pretty much everything I can of this guy (unfortunate that there's only 3 hours of game tape!) does anyone know if there's more than just the one-minute of highlights from his second Pro Day? His full first Pro Day seems to be up online but can't find anything from the second one outside of that minute of highlights.
