That's an interesting scenario, but it hasn't come to that because Lance is injured.

wouldve been nice to have a coach who doesn't call QB Draw 10 times for his rookie QB on his first start after a year off playing

I read that Trey will be back on Wednesday so we shall know as early as next week.

Right, he's "injured"
I can see the excuse for not starting thim this week, but next week why? Maybe throw Jimmy at AZ? After that? I mean if we lose one more game the playoffs are 99% a dream so lets plan ahead here.

This. The kid has one full week of practice as a starter and has missed 3 total weeks of practice (out of 7) since the pre-season ended.

Trey just isn't ready yet. He needs to sit the year and learn. If he was ready he would be out there. Yeah it sucks, but Jimmy gives us the best chance to win doesnt matter if you hate jimmy it is what it is. I want him out there too just like everyone. But if we rush him out it there's a chance it will ruin him

So lose with Jimmy or lose with Trey? One guy needs reps and is the future and the other is a lame duck QB that could get hurt and cost SF an extra $7.5M in 2022 (if on IR)

Sitting and learning what exactly? You can only learn so much by being the scout QB and running the other teams offense. You can only learn so much by watching the same film you'd be watching if you were playing (actually less because it's not film of you playing).

He's never gonna be 100% ready...he's gotta play football. Get the lumps in now, instead of 2022.

I asked people in here do you think Lance would have looked better vs AZ if he got all the 1st team reps in the off season, preseason, practices and started from day 1? If you think so, then what has basically sitting for 5+ months done? Why is sitting for another 5 months gonna make him that much better?

Or you throw out Lance when his knee isn't 100%, he wrecks his knee and is out for the rest of this year+ probably the 1st half of 2022 - then what do you do? You really think Kyle doesn't remember what happened playing RGIII on a knee that wasn't 100% who then tore his ACL in the playoffs? What have you seen from this OL that tells you Lance won't take hits back there. You really want a guy with a knee that's not 100%, who hasn't practiced in 2 weeks and will be limited this week to go play against Khalil Mack vs McGlinchey?

No he's just a rookie. It's tough for them. He also has the locker room to consider

And, he's hurt, another week off will do him good. Don't worry this will be Jimmy's last game, than it's Trey the rest of the way.

I don't think that's something to be happy about. If they go to Trey and he looks bad the rest of the year, I could easily see Kyle and Co being gone. Then what do you do? There's no guarantee the next guy is high on Lance. Then what?

Can't see Shanahan getting fired this year, even if we go 2-14. John, sure, and then Kyle is on the ultra hot seat.

This is my concern as well. It won't hurt him to sit a little longer. But playing on a knee that isn't fully healed can be DISASTROUS for his development long term.

Maybe i'm getting too pessimistic this season, but I could see Kyle getting fired if we go 2-15(I know, the 17 game thing still messes with me too).

What's Kyle's excuse this year? Jimmy? No, you went to an F'n super bowl with the guy - that's not an excuse and if he was really so bad that he was the reason this team tanks, then why TF did Kyle have him in the plans anyway? Why waste 25m on him? There's not excuse for that. Injuries? Every team has injuries and if relying on Jason Verrett and Mostert - both with significant injury history, after 5 years of seeing often injured players be often injured - you can't excuse that. Going 2-15 after you give up 3, 1st round picks 2 years removed from a SB? Nahhh, if it's that bad, I'd be on the "fire kyle" bandwagon and I've been one of his biggest fans since he was hired.

Are we saying Eddie DeBartolo wouldn't have at least fired Kyle Sunday night and hired him back Monday morning?

Lance needs to sit man. I'd agree that he needs to start now, but have you seen our team? It's a train wreck as far as play calling and blocking. You want him to get reps just to get reps. That's all good but what if those reps don't teach him anything either?

This is honestly the toughest topic to debate and I don't think you're wrong either if you want him in there. I just don't want him behind an old Mack and a revolving McG, no RBs, and no identity on offense.

^ Truth
He just doesn't look ready when he has been in there. He can't make his reads. He throws an inaccurate ball. He's so confused out there. He's a real good athlete. Just nowhere near ready right now.

So he's like every other QB on the roster except he's also a good athlete.

The only reason not to start him now is health. If he's healthy, then he should start.

1. Jimmy misses reads as well and he's in his 8th season in the NFL

2. Jimmy has his share of inaccurate passes but with a lot less arm talent

3. How is he "so confused out there"?

It's one thing if we're winning games and Jimmy isn't making critical mistakes. I like the guy, I wish he was playing much better but he's not. I don't believe for one second that with our talent throwing Lance out there would be a bad thing for his development.

If he's making mistakes (and he will) at least he gets a chance to learn from them and grow from them. Jimmy's time to learn from his mistakes is over. He is what he is.

We're 2-4. If we want to make a run we need something to bring energy out there. I hate to say it but that's not Jimmy. Not if he can't move the chains consistently. That was his biggest asset IMO and we've been terrible on 3rd down with him as QB. So what is he offering now?

Lol. Even though I don't agree with this, the argument really ain't an argument considering our vet 25 million a year current starter looks exactly the same minus the athleticism.

One has time to grow, the other has been given time and has regressed. Seems like a simple choice at this point of the season.
