Why do front offices assume that because a guy has a strong arm he knows how to throw short? And assime it can be easily trained. What could be simpler?
Tried that for 4 years with kap. Bust.
Kap didn't put in the work. That was his issue, even his own teammates like Crabtree called him out on it. As time went on, he was more obsessed with how he looked in the gym than studying the playbook and working on his mechanics.
And if you ever played a sport you would know that you can get better at certain things. Front offices *assume* this stuff because it happens a lot.
Yeah Kap's issues weren't as much his throwing ability. It was his processing.
He may not have been Tom Brady/Drew Brees/Russell Wilson with his throws but he could make all the throws. His issue was more reading defenses and reacting to things quickly on the football field. He was very smart but his processing on the field wasn't there. And yes several people have called him out for lack of film study...it could be those people had an ax to grind but seems odd, especially when on the field it looked like there was a lack of film study showing up.
I certainly wish Trey was coming into the league ready to rock but once again people need to be reminded that he just turned 21 this past May. Many QBs have taken huge leaps in their development at that age. Dak Prescott, Lamar Jackson, Russell Wilson, Josh Allen, etc...
And out of all of those guys Trey probably has the least throwing experience at that age. There is a ton of growth to be had with this kid. We didn't trade up for him for his rookie season. This was a move for 15+ years for this franchise.
Nothing is guaranteed but from all accounts Trey has the work ethic and the intelligence to do his part. Fans just need a bit of patience.
