Dallas Cowboys QB Trey Lance Thread

I said at the time, I had heard Trey did it on his own and got push back here for it (naturally).

But given he did it on his own is MORE of a reason they ended up liking him most in the end. Smart kid. Smart move.

From the front page:

General manager John Lynch offered some clarification over the weekend. The 49ers didn't insist Lance work with Beck at all. The former North Dakota quarterback had an early first pro day and was training in Los Angeles with his former teammate, Easton Stick. That's when he started working with Beck. A week later, on March 26, San Francisco traded up to No. 3.

As soon as the trade happened, Lance scrambled to set up a second pro day, knowing that he might be among the 49ers' options. It made sense to work again with Beck because of the coach's familiarity with Shanahan and his system. Lynch said the 49ers did not insist Lance work with Beck.

"Yeah, that wasn't the case," Lynch told Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated over the weekend. "So, there are some things there. I went to high school with Tom House's daughter. Kyle's got to know Tom well through Matt Ryan because Matt saw him and Kyle took the time to go out there as a coach, and he met John Beck. But that's not our business to tell people, 'Hey, go here.' And I know that was a big narrative.

"Sometimes people will say, 'Hey, what will he do?' and we'll say we've had good success here. But I can tell you, John's opinion mattered a lot to us, and so did [Lance's previous trainer, Quincy Avery]'s. I talked to Quincy, and he was a tremendous resource—he's been around Trey a lot. So I'm appreciative to both of them."

HA quincy said point blank he didn't speak with SF, so someone is fibbing a little (I'm guessing him at that point) I love that House/Beck got their eyes on Lance and clearly gave a sign of approval. Footwork and football IQ is big for them, so great news there

Here's the article

Which training wheel offense would you prefer?

Trey Lance which will be limited due to inexperience

OR

Jimmy G which will be limited due to physical skills and talent

Give me the Trey Lance offense all day

I need some camps to start so I can see this kid in action.
Damn. Lombardi is salty as hell about being wrong.

"I'm not buying it was Trey Lance all along, Anybody you talk to in the NFL that has sources - they aren't buying that either. [SF] can say it was Trey all along - that's a crock of crap. [T]hey traded up to get Mac Jones and the outside pressure became really bad."

HAHA what a tool. You're wrong get over yourself, Mike. Dude has been wrong a ton of times and will continue to be wrong. IMO he's a horrible source when it comes to anything outside of NE.

This is a learning lesson for all of us, don't believe s**t from the mass media when it comes to SF during draft time.

Nah, Mike is right. They traded up to get a guy that everyone knew they could get at 12.

The Falcons were going to take Trey at 4.

Holy hell. We can laugh about it now as fans, but these NFL media types are 100% butt hurt that they thoroughly played themselves.

Lol keep telling yourself that, a ton of teams were interested in lance. The interest in the other 2 qbs was overstated.

Lombardi is a loud mouth piece of crap...always has been. I laugh more at the posters here who got all hostile and argued until they were blue in the face defending clowns like him as though they were special and how dare we question them. I mean I like Schefty a lot more than Lombardi but someone literally said he is no mere writer and he is never wrong about these things and if he said it I am a moron for not believing it is gospel. And lets not even get into the guy who spent several pages trolling me for not believing Lombardi who is wrong about damn near everything all the time.
I was convinced we moved up for one of Fields or Wilson because I knew that no one was into Jones to the tune of three firsts and a third. I NEVER believed the Mac Jones smokescreen and I knew our front office wasn't stupid. At best I believed Mac Jones would be a draft day trade up

Now I ended up being partially right as Wilson and Fields were in much higher demand than Mac Jones BUT it ended up Lance was who we were hot and bothered about

I am now glad we got Lance from a long term view and high ceiling aspect. I just didn't think we had the balls to give so much to go so high and do this move but we did and I applaud this front office and ownership for that

Now I'm ready to experience Trey Dey err day!

I think he was being sarcastic, there was zero chance Lance would have been there at 12.

I'm 100 percent convinced of this. It would have been ideal for them to let him sit behind Ryan for a year or two.
