That's cause the Patriots used the money they got from losing their expensive QB and bought a bunch of great talent to help their young QB. Look at the people they signed in the off-season.

Lance threw it too hard and Sanu dropped it. Good job Jimmy getting that 3 yard gain.

We need a sarcasm font.
Go Trey Lance

I'm glad. To me "the sky is falling let's quit on the season" is the panicked fan take. Reality says 12-5 or 3-14 are our range of outcomes this season. Lots of possibilities.

Reality says 12-5??? Not sure what your definition is reality is.

Edit: and it's not "The sky is falling take", it's a "let's start preparing for next season " take.

Did I mess that up? We're now 3-5. 17 games this year. So yeah 12-5 is in the realm of possibility. Not saying it WILL happen just saying it could happen as could 3-14.

As much as you may want to punt on the season (which in a year with no 1st round pick I cannot wrap my head around) we're still in this.

It's not tanking or punting, it's reality. The team sucks and they're not making the playoffs. It has nothing to do with draft picks. They're not going 3-14 or 12-5. More like 6-11 to 9-8 range. Those outcomes won't make the playoffs. Sorry to burst your bubble. Keep your hopes up if you'd like. You're just opening yourself up to disappointment most weeks.

How does 9-8 not make the playoffs? Haven't they watered down the postseason so much that above .500 puts us at least in the convo? Trey will have a whole career to prove himself. Imagine putting the Rams in their place with a MNF win. Then a trip to the Jags which we will be favored for. My crystal ball has us 5-5 at home for the Vikings which we should be favored again. 6-5 at Seattle will be a showdown.

It could happen. If I was putting my own money on the line I wouldn't take that bet though. I'd say almost the complete opposite of that is going to happen. I'd be thrilled if what you proposed happens though. It's just easier to accept once I've convinced myself that they're not who we thought they were this season.

9-8 doesn't make the playoffs this year IMO. There are too many good teams in the NFC. AFC maybe 9-8 does it. Also, consider the fact we are 0-3 in the division right now, high probability 0-4 after next week. How many teams have ever made the playoffs starting out 0-3 or 0-4 in their own division? Exactly…

I wish I had your optimism. I too thought we would be 5-5 after the Jags game, but that was assuming we beat an Arizona team that we had no business losing to.

The Vikings are better than us too.

And look who they're beating and how. I wanted a good portion of that game yesterday and he was not good…no one objective could watch that game any day otherwise.

I can go there with you about 9-8 in looking at the schedule ahead. I have been pretty optimistic about this team for this season with the talent it still has healthy; however, yesterday's game against that depleted Cards team has made me rethink some things - especially in how this team is coached.

Looking ahead this season, this team has to find a way to beat the Rams next Monday IMO. You have to show you can beat good teams if you're at all to have a chance at the playoffs and doing something from there. A good starting point would be vs. the Rams. That said, this team has to play much better from the very start of the game all the way through - and not be terrible in one of the three phases. Can they do it against a good team like the Rams? I believe they can but they need to show it. They do that against a good team and it could be a confidence-building win with hopefully a snowball effect.

It's still early but in looking at the WC picture, you have a good team in the Rams and then two teams that are very so-so that I think the Niners can get past in NO and ATL (NO especially with its QB situation). The other teams in the mix like Carolina, MIN, & CHI don't scare me at all and of those I can see the Vikes as being the toughest challenger.

Just get into the playoffs...because once in, you can get on a roll, other teams can fade/get hurt...anything can happen.

Back to Lance...I thought he might get in for a few plays yesterday to change some things up but when McGlinchey got hurt and you have Compton trying to hold it down vs. C. Jones, I'm glad Lance didn't get in. We'll see what happens in games going forward.

I though the same thing. Plus I'm not sure how healthy his knee is. Better to just give it another week if we have to.

Good point. Want his knee as close to 100% healthy before getting him back in for more plays. Hopefully he's close to or at 100% healthy.
