How does 9-8 not make the playoffs? Haven't they watered down the postseason so much that above .500 puts us at least in the convo? Trey will have a whole career to prove himself. Imagine putting the Rams in their place with a MNF win. Then a trip to the Jags which we will be favored for. My crystal ball has us 5-5 at home for the Vikings which we should be favored again. 6-5 at Seattle will be a showdown.
I can go there with you about 9-8 in looking at the schedule ahead. I have been pretty optimistic about this team for this season with the talent it still has healthy; however, yesterday's game against that depleted Cards team has made me rethink some things - especially in how this team is coached.
Looking ahead this season, this team has to find a way to beat the Rams next Monday IMO. You have to show you can beat good teams if you're at all to have a chance at the playoffs and doing something from there. A good starting point would be vs. the Rams. That said, this team has to play much better from the very start of the game all the way through - and not be terrible in one of the three phases. Can they do it against a good team like the Rams? I believe they can but they need to show it. They do that against a good team and it could be a confidence-building win with hopefully a snowball effect.
It's still early but in looking at the WC picture, you have a good team in the Rams and then two teams that are very so-so that I think the Niners can get past in NO and ATL (NO especially with its QB situation). The other teams in the mix like Carolina, MIN, & CHI don't scare me at all and of those I can see the Vikes as being the toughest challenger.
Just get into the playoffs...because once in, you can get on a roll, other teams can fade/get hurt...anything can happen.
Back to Lance...I thought he might get in for a few plays yesterday to change some things up but when McGlinchey got hurt and you have Compton trying to hold it down vs. C. Jones, I'm glad Lance didn't get in. We'll see what happens in games going forward.
This is what I'm talking about great post

At this point I am not opposed to blowing up the roster outside Trey, Deebo, Kittle, Aiyuk, Mitchell and Bosa. Time to accept we are not contending for anything this year and refocus on developing Trey the rest of the season, get him synced up with our other core offensive players, and do a massive offseason rebuild cutting bait with overpriced players(Jimmy, Ford, Armstead), trading Fred Warner for a first and signing good talent in FA.
Tired of the hopeless Jimmy G show and the failed launch of the "revenge tour".

Kyle and Lynch have to win in 2022 to keep their jobs.

First year with Trey in '22, they'll probably give them till '23 to turn it around.

You guys are gonna be disappointed. I don't think lance starts until next year. He just doesn't look ready. Doesn't make proper reads and his footwork is awful and causes him to absolutely sky balls. The anti-jimmy crowd whines about jimmy being high, imagine when you get your wish only to have lance miss by 20 yards

There was never issues with high passes or bad footwork in his scouting report. I think he's a little excited to do good and his mechanics are screwed up. I think it's something that can be corrected with coaching and just playing.

What's wrong with him thowing bad balls and making bad reads this year and then being better next year ? Why does the team need a lame duck QB when they're not winning ? Why are they content with just losing service time of a rookie QB contract ?

This is such an exaggeration. Go back and watch the first Cards game film, and he threw high on maybe 3 balls, and they were all on those middle of the field throws where he has to get it a little higher to avoid getting the pass batted. The rest of his throws, while not perfect, were located pretty well and he excelled at his ball placement on the out routes. Also his reads were fine, not much behind Jimmy in that respect albeit it was understandably a simplified offense.
He needs to play more to improve his game.

Lol they aren't playing Jimmy G and sitting Lance just to build his value.
They are trying to win. Lance is nowhere near as good as Jimmy is right now. That's the facts. That simple.

How do you know Trey isn't better if you don't play him?

Because when he does play its like a chicken with its head cutoff? Shanahan already knows he may have made a mistake. It's getting obvious.

Absolutely agree Lance is the youngest QB out of the class this year I believe he needs to learn the playbook cause the game was a lil 2 fasr for him.But Jimmy G is gone after the year his cap hit is real low so why not trade him he has value IMO

He's a rookie - he's supposed to play like a chicken with his head cut off. Remember how bad Alex looked when he was a rookie? He couldn't even take a simple snap. That's what Trey is going through right now - he'll be fine.
