He didn't like the pick so that's what it has to be lol...never mind the massive amount of upside and intangibles

Same people that got fooled by Lombardi and the same ones that believe the pick was about ticket sales lol. Let's get the tinfoil hats on.

It can't be a simple as they liked Lance the whole damn time, let the media jump all over a "rumor" and watch chaos and ratings for the NFL go through the roof.

Also I love how the NFL reached out to tell the 9ers not to reveal the pick. Do you think they don't see the writing on the wall where ratings/$$$ is concerned?

The 49ers did an incredible favor to all kinds of people connected to the NFL by keeping the pick secret. Also it was in their own best interest too... the teams behind them not knowing who the pick would be.

MAYBE when SF was completely done with their evaluations and finally made a decision the truth (Lance) was the real report. These guys get feed b******t just as much as they get feed the truth. They listen to agents and what players are told in meetings with these teams....Which is clearly speculation and everyone feel for it hook, line, and sinker.

Caved over what? this is such a silly post....the content up to the draft is entertainment, go look at the ratings, go look at all the freaking clicks and go look at the amount of money spent (gambling) on that 3rd overall.

Too be disappointed with the team moving up for what could very well be a top 5 QB in the NFL and a long-term FQB is ridiculous. Thinking he panicked is very disappointing lol. give me break with this

Says the guy who was so sure it was jones at the end. You said you were reading the tea leaves. Just because they ended up taking lance doesn't mean everything smelled like roses during the process like they want us to believe.

I have my position as to what transpired. You have yours. The truth won't come out for several years, if ever. Sooner if things with lance don't work out.

Yes I believe they traded up for Jones initially. Adam Shefter doesn't come out and say with complete confidence "It'll be Jones." Yes, it was Jones who they traded for because Kyle and Mike Shanahan really like him. Then when the backlash from fans and media were coming from all sides, Lynch and company tried to convince Kyle to change his mind to Lance. I don't dislike Lance. I just think if you are going trade up to #3 and give up several number ones, the guy better be ready to start day 1, which isn't the case for Lance. He is an extremely risky project. Yeah, he will probably sit a year and learn in 2021. 2022 he may start if he pans out, and that will be a another year of major growing pains since he will not have played QB for over two years.

until you listen to when Kyle said, there were 3 QBs that they felt good with at three...he said in that last presser (before the draft) that after they got to evaluated freely the felt the other 2 QBs improved their stocks with the team BUT the original guy did as well. So that means they drafted the guy they moved up for all along....lance.

Again if you think fans determined the pick then you're being foolish. I'm sorry you didn't get Jones.

Why can't Lance play week 1? Why is Jones looked at as some pro-ready QB? Lance ran a legit pro offense damn near the same as Kyle. He called protections, he went through FULL reads, he's spent the past 5 months going over current NFL QBs playbooks and studying film with them. Jones ran a spread offense, he wasn't huddling up, he wasn't playing under center, freaking most of his throws were either RPOs or on his first read. He's a 17 game starter. not some 3 yr starter.

The whole Jones is the most pro-ready BS is so overblown. Lance is no more risky then any of these QBs outside of Lawrence.

Go look at my last mock...I had Fields (but said Lance would make a ton of sense). I spent most of my damn time saying it wouldn't be Jones lol. Yes I jumped on the bandwagon for a hot min trying to accept the stupid idea that this organization would be dumb enough to take Jones at 3. Thank god they weren't!

This FO has been about as truthful as a team gets, during their pressers.....why you don't believe it could have been Lance the whole time is beyond me. You along with a lot of us got fooled by the media echo-chambering to stir up ratings and cash. It's pretty clear that is what happened.

You're right we won't 100% know for several years if ever. But let's just hope it's not true because if it is that would mean we badly misread the demand for the prospect we wanted and traded 2 firsts and a third for a guy that literally only one other team in the NFL wanted, who weren't willing to trade up for him, and were picking 3 spots behind us before the trade up.
Then when they saw the fan uproar over their favorite prospect being leaked they got so intimidated they decided to pick somebody that they didn't really like just to sell a couple tickets for the upcoming season.
If that is true there is 31 teams with better decision makers than we have.

This can't be correct. We are to believe that they did not divulge their love for lance to each other until a few days prior to avoid bias , and lynch was so ecstatic that shanahan wanted lance that he started pinching his own nipples.

He's going to be sprinkled in just as we always have done with young QBs in the past. We ain't worried about Mac Jones and it seems other clubs weren't either until the middle of the first round

There are ppl on this board and in the media who think it's hard to get how good or fast of a runner Lance is bc he's playing against future car salesmen. Well - here it is.

Lamar Jackson is 6'2 210 24 years old in his physical prime
Lance is 6'4 225 20 year old

This is sort of a relief for me. Was difficult to tell Lance's speed because he appears so under control when he's running. But I guess his top speed is very fast. I think his 40-time is faster than what was clocked. I'm sure his primary focus wasn't coming out of a sprinter's stance.

Quoting myself. I know Kyler Murray ran a 4.3 but I wonder if he has clocked faster than 20mph with a uniform. If not, then this is what we have:

  1. The biggest QB in the NFC West
  2. The fastest QB in the NFC West
  3. The strongest arm in the NFC West
  4. Physical ability: Lance = Wilson + Murray + Stafford

That 3rd overall pick had more cash gambled on it then any pick in NFL history....just in time with the NFL having gambling rights lol.

There was no reason for SF to EVER be truthful about what they were gonna do....McCorkle could have a pic of a bong mask come out the day of the draft, Rogers could become available via trade the night before the draft, some team could offer them a billion picks when we're on the clock, the Jets could do Jets things etc. OH and 12.4M people tuned in to see it

The fact that people are still getting taken for a ride via a "insider" who gets s**t wrong all the damn time is pretty funny and shows how gullible we can be

Why can't it be correct? They knew they loved all these dudes and now had the ability to freely evaluated them. Kyle told Lynch in January that he loved Lance and sent him film on him...you miss that or no?

They then went through the process and both came away with the same conclusion...t's not that deep of a thing, Jose.

So you and Lombardi actually, genuinely think they changed their proposed pick because some booboys on the internet didn't like it??? This is probably the funniest thing I have read on here this year. Nobody including even the owner knew who they traded up for. Their own boss didn't know. But you and half a dozen internet jockeys knew.

The logic of only trading up for a day 1 starter also fails. Why did they keep Garoppolo then? They kept him because they wanted time with their draft pick, which, the bulk of the internet was sure, was neither necessary nor even desirable with Jones.
Literally this

You said they traded up SPECIFICALLY for lance. Yes?

They traded up for Lance, but didn't want to end up with another Patrick Mahomes situation where they pass on somebody that they didn't really evaluate at all. So they did analysis on all 3 QBs without coming to an official decision.
