And not: the 49ers didn't draft my guy BUTTHURT let me b***h about it like it will change the fact WE DRAFTED Trey Lance thread.

HA

Crazy bro. My wife had the baby yesterday. They are doing great, so I've obviously been busy with more important things at this time. I come check this thread and it's people complaining. Lol

Just say damn I really wanted Fields or Jones. That's fair, we all get it. We both said drafting Lance would be massive balls and it is. I hope it works out because we will be contenders for 12+ years if so.

The media is full of s**t. Simms took an educated guess and was wrong, but he always said. I don't know. I'm just assuming based on what I know about Kyle. He's always said that and I mean, it's honest.

Lombardi is a jackass. I've seen reports saying it was Lance and Fields, not even Lance and Jones. Who knows, but it's done and over with now. I'm super glad it wasn't t Jones lol

I will say Fields looked like he was pissed and probably had his heart set on coming here. I admire that. I hope he does well except when playing us.

This can't be correct. We are to believe that they did not divulge their love for lance to each other until a few days prior to avoid bias , and lynch was so ecstatic that shanahan wanted lance that he started pinching his own nipples.

We are to believe that Trey was picked at three and Mac Jones had to pop a NoDoz trying to stay awake long enough to hear his name called

Hey, Mac would have been a decent pick at #12...he went at #15. But at. #3, that was WAY over drafted. So no, at 3 he was a no no.

as for Fields who has terrific talent , i suspect we'll never know but the media had him, Trey , Mac all lumped together ...one week it was one, next week the other, But then one Fri, something must have been released to media or somebody found out. (It was known long before Fields had epilepsy, well controlled), but something huge happened that Fri because by Monday, Fields dropped out of sight, and was reported to be as low as 32nd on the draft board. (He went back up shortly thereafter, obviously)

Only thing i can think of is that a hypothetical leaked/discovered report that a neurologist specializing in epilepsy (epileptologist), did NOT clear Fields and issued a statement that a severe hit to the head would be a serious setback for his epilepsy which has been well controlled to date. At least, that was all i can think of to suddenly find him plummeting to the bottom of the board. What else could have precipitated that? I guess some team (CHI??) could have somehow sent out a bogus report on him, so he would be there at 11 for them, but....either way, once that piece of info was out....Mac was out based on draft position, (12-15) and. Fields had a ding from a possible medical report....that left Lance.

FTR, with all our massive IR and PUP setting negative records last yr and same for games lost by starters, if we had taken Fields I would have been sick,
scared silly that every time he stepped out on the field would be his last. Kyle and John later said that one of the key things in their picks had to be good health. And if Fields had been taken by us and then a helmet hit precipitated his epilepsy, KS/JL would have had egg on their faces and shortened their careers here. The gamble was way, way too high. Frankly i just hope Fields has a great career. Good kid, talented. Rocket arm. But Just NOT for us.

That left one guy....Trey.

He's less fast than Kaepernick. Keep it in perspective. He's here to throw.

Who are these people???. They need 👁 implants. This dude is gonna be handing off to himself on 3d and short and the goal line.🤣. He'll call his protections then blast out on a boot and either hit a second or 3d window at 55 yards or just keep it and truck corners. Wish the Kap Shlit would stop. This dude's top end is faster than LJ's

I don't know. Kap's top speed was like a cheetah.

But Trey doesn't need to be the fastest QB. He just needs to be fast enough to scare defenses — and he is.

I hope to God he isn't like Kaep. I want a QB that can read defenses, go through his progressions, have some pocket awareness, anticipate a receiver getting open, and not just run to run, but do it when its truly the best option. Just saying. 😂

I'm just laughing @ ppl on this board who are still trying to convince themselves that 49ers would have drafted Mac Jones at 3 but caved to fan pressure.

Lol how arrogant of them!

There weren't any leaks. The reporters talk to player agents as well and if Lance's agent tells a reporter that there are a handful of teams in the top 10 interested in him, then it isn't that difficult to conclude that SF is also interested.

My things is, did Fields drop mainly because of his condition? He seems to be the most dynamic.

He was a top pick and a club wanted him badly enough to trade up and get him. I think he did well. He went earlier than Mac Jones as well he should have. There were some talented player KD picked before him too. I'm thinking Fields dropped more so to some character traits unbeknownst to us that can't evaluate him. It has to be something we can't see so we can only speculate but I knew he was better than Mac Jones!

Character? No way. Fields dropped because (a) epilepsy and (b) he sometimes hesitated to pull the trigger (ala Jimmy).

Lamar Jackson is 6'2 210 24 years old in his physical prime
Lance is 6'4 225 20 year old

nah i think that comment was directed at lance running over defenders

its super obvious lance is hella fast, he also has that quick twitch

Naah I clearly remembers some media members including Simms saying that it's hard to tell how fast is he bc he's running by ppl who run a slow 40.

Doesn't mean they're saying Lance is slow - but it was another way to put doubt in ppl's mind that - hey he may not be as fast as he looks.
So it looks like shanny caved to public pressure and changed his pick to lance. Also looks like we probably didn't need to trade up that high to draft him or McCorkle.

Hopefully it turns out good but once again this team doesn't seem to know what it's doing.

I hate to break it to you guys, but lombardi is right. There is waaay too much evidence to suggest otherwise. If there were no leaks how did schefter know that it was trey lance gaining steam at the end? He didn't need to report it, he didn't need to make that up. He could have stuck with his mac jones prediction. They caved and now we have to hope that it works out. I'm disappointed in the whole process, starting with the trade up. I think shanahan panicked. I think giving up two first rounders was a terrible move. Just all around disappointed.

They knew Fields wasn't in consideration because they probably told him, "hey we really like you but we will be going another directions" and his agent probably told reporters. Trey Lance probably gained steam at the end because they probably told Mac Jones the same thing.

Fields basically stated he felt the niners lied to him. The niners didn't say anything to the players inluding lance.

Also, an article stated that shanahan told lynch a few days prior of he was ready to go with lance. Lynch asked if he was serious. Does that sound like it was lance from the start? It actually sounds like he doubted shanahan would go with lance.

We need to stop believing anything we are being fed.

Evaluate ALL that Shanahan and Lynch said. What Lynch said was that early in January Shanahan said he was "obsessed" with Lance. Then Shanahan said that they started trying tk trade shortly after, with the aim of having the piece of mind that IF when the evaluations were done, that Trey was indeed who Shanahan thought he was, they'd be in position to take him, but if he wasn't, they'd be in position to take Jones, who was the safety net.

In other words, they traded up for Lance, and here "for Lance" means "we love Lance's tape, but fully evaluating him like we want could reveal our preferences to rivals, so we'll trade up to 3 so that IF Lance is who we think he is, we can get him, and if he's not, we still will have Jones, who we love. And hell, while we're at it, we can dig deep into Fields too."

Simms is just so weird, he absolutely loved Josh Allen and acted like him shaking off FCS defenders was the most impressive thing he's ever seen but hates Trey Lance when he did the same thing.

Funny how the Beck tie was a massive reason fans linked Trey to the 49ers saying the 9ers suggested it for he and Fields and not Mac.

I said at the time, I had heard Trey did it on his own and got push back here for it (naturally).

But given he did it on his own is MORE of a reason they ended up liking him most in the end. Smart kid. Smart move.

From the front page:

General manager John Lynch offered some clarification over the weekend. The 49ers didn't insist Lance work with Beck at all. The former North Dakota quarterback had an early first pro day and was training in Los Angeles with his former teammate, Easton Stick. That's when he started working with Beck. A week later, on March 26, San Francisco traded up to No. 3.

As soon as the trade happened, Lance scrambled to set up a second pro day, knowing that he might be among the 49ers' options. It made sense to work again with Beck because of the coach's familiarity with Shanahan and his system. Lynch said the 49ers did not insist Lance work with Beck.

"Yeah, that wasn't the case," Lynch told Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated over the weekend. "So, there are some things there. I went to high school with Tom House's daughter. Kyle's got to know Tom well through Matt Ryan because Matt saw him and Kyle took the time to go out there as a coach, and he met John Beck. But that's not our business to tell people, 'Hey, go here.' And I know that was a big narrative.

"Sometimes people will say, 'Hey, what will he do?' and we'll say we've had good success here. But I can tell you, John's opinion mattered a lot to us, and so did [Lance's previous trainer, Quincy Avery]'s. I talked to Quincy, and he was a tremendous resource—he's been around Trey a lot. So I'm appreciative to both of them."

I think John and Kyle strongly suggested working with Beck, but it wasn't an order. More like, let's see what Lance will do with our suggestion. Because (from what I understand) QB mechanics are worked on in the off-season on the QBs own time for the majority. Can't really work on it in camp because you have to work on group play, like the 7 on 7 drills and the like vs individual drills. That was a good indication that Trey is really motivated to be a QB vs an RB like Colin.

Oh, that proves that Lombardi was wrong. Sustroll input.

Explain how it looks like that? 🤡
Lance needs to play this season period. I won't do him any good being away from the field for so long.

So clearly - he's guessing. He thinks it's a very educated guess but guess nonetheless.

I'm not sure why Lynch and Kyle both will cook up stories that Kyle was obsessed with Lance's film in late January? Kyle said it very clearly - they wanted to move up in Feb - and they eventually wanted to move up to 3 bc they felt if they traded to a lower spot - someone will jump to 3. He also felt the price will go higher - so better to make the move now. All of this makes sense.

It was Lance all along. Could they have changed their minds? Of course - if he turned out to be a know-it-all brat who doesn't sound like he wants to be coached - sure. But, they liked the person too and they were already gaga over his tape.

It´s hilarious that some people truely believe that Kyle Shanahan changed his mind because of fans backlash.
Kyle Shanahan. I repeat Kyle Shanahan. If he wanted Mac Jones, he would have drafted Mac Jones whether you like it or not.
John Lynch litteraly said that he defers to Kyle for the QB position in the pre draft press conference.
Lombardi is just a damn fool. The guy not only said that the Cardinals wouldn´t draft Kyler a few days before the draft. He said that Rosen was their guy and that Quinnen Williams would be the first overall pick. But hey if you want to believe dumbasses like him, it´s on you.
Just listen to Kyle´s interview with Rich Eisen. Trey Lance is his choice and he´s excited as hell.
By the way in the same interview Kyle talked about how Mike wanted Russell Wilson back in 2012. Fun story.
