If he had the whole playbook down, why did Shanahan use him as a battering ram in the cardinals game? Is it an issue of processing? Speed of the game?
I'm not buying anything anyone feeds me. I don't give a flying f**k what Shanahan says. Lynch says, or kitlle or Montana or anyone.
I'm going to wait for the season to start and use my eyes.
What makes your eyes worth anything? You a former scout?
LOL sir this is a fan site. You're gonna criticize someone for using their eyes and making up their own mind?
I just dont get when people ignore all the great things Trey has shown so far, and all the things coaches, execs, and outside experts have said about his progress, only to "trust their own eye", as if their eye is more trustworthy than what Greg Cosell said.

This. Wasn't a fan of his takes back in the day, but he's been spot on lately
That's right.
"Trey's got the whole playbook in his head. "He was able to do that in training camp." — Kyle Shanahan
"Doesn't know the playbook." — SanDiego49er
Our Leader SanDiego49er will have the perfect response.

It might be regarding his pecker
He might not be available by the time we pick and we already have a very good set of 3 wrs (assuming we resign Jennings as a RFA)
We do need more WRs, SF after they resign Jennings will have only 3 on the books. I would like a slot WR that can move the chains on 3rd downs and a field stretcher hoping that either can return kicks.

It's because knowing the playbook isn't the same thing as knowing NFL defenses, or being familiar enough with NFL speed to accelerate your processing and reaction time.
One can fully know the offense and not have a great understanding of NFL defenses presnap. One can fully know the offense, have a great understanding of defenses presnap, but struggle reading defenses post-snap (Jimmy Garoppolo). One can fully know the offense, fully understand NFL defenses pre-snap, fully understand defenses post-snap, and still not have a good appreciation for NFL speed (Peyton Manning, his rookie season, where that lone weakness helped him set an NFL record for interceptions).
So, Trey had one of those four things down: knowing the playbook. You probably would not want to unleash the full offense with a guy who understands only one fourth of the mental necessities of playing quarterback.

Also Trey had one week of work with the starting unit. Which in season translates to Monday, film and rehab. Tuesday insert game plan some throwing mostly half speed play. Wednesday and Thursday are about the only days that they go full speed. Friday is walkthrough and load the plane if they are on the road. Saturday is walkthrough and Sunday is get it on!!! That's why it's so hard to beat out a starter during the season there just isn't time for the coaches to rotate guys. That's why training camp is so important for the young to try and earn a starting spot.
