Imagine trading 3 first round picks for a player that "at the very least" matches the same numbers as the guy you and several others nonstop complain about like your life depends on it. Would be a bad look imo

Imagine being a fan of an NFL team and pulling for their starting QB to fail.

Ok. Trey would have got us to to the nfc championship game last year. Got it.

my original post was to point out that nobody knows anything and it's all meaningless opinions. You're proving my point. You don't know what he would have done. You don't know how hes going to do next year. You don't know if he would have gone to the superbowl. So let's stop with these assumptions that he's going to suck or that he would have taken the team to at least the nfc championship game last year and watch the games next year.

One thing I can't take is the lame assumption that Trey would have done better than Jimmy last year. How many rookie qbs he taken their team to a championship game in the history of the NFL? Itld bet its not many, yet here we all are betting our entire life savings that Trey would have easily done it last year.

Edit: I looked it up. 3. 3 rookie qbs have taken their teams to conference championship games in the the frigging history of the nfl. Mark Sanchez, Joe Flacco, and Ben Roethlisberger.

And trey would have done it no problem.

Thanks for citing 3 QBs who PROVE its not all about QB play. Yes, Trey would have. And likely will this year, depending on the play of the rest of the league. If you think that Trey will be worse than the 3 you cited, probably best to follow another team. This one will only make you look like the ass you are.

Jimmy didn't take the team to the NFC championship game and contributed little to the team's overall success last year. He was more of a hindrance than anything. Trey easily would have outdone him had he started all year.

Its like I'm talking to a wall.

Fact: The team went to the nfc championship game with Jimmy as the qb.

Fact: only 3 rookie qbs have ever taken their team to a conference championship.

Opinion: trey easily would have outdone him had he started all year.

Why is this so hard to understand? I'm not saying it's a zero probability, bit it's highly unlikely given the history of the league that they would hav got to the nfc championship with a rookie. Your statement that they easily would have accomplished that with Trey is just a biased opinion. And there is no way you will ever be able to prove it.

We were able to see Trey Lance through preseason, 2 spot starts, and finishing a game JG started.

He clearly was not ready to play. He showed some flashes here and there, but he could not consistently do the simple things and he has a lot of work to do fundamentally.

Jimmy G is a below average QB in the NFL (like bottom 3rd of the league being generous) and he was the better option at QB last season. Kyle Shanahan and staff believed this as well which is why he started all season long, including in the highest stakes games through injury. The team is in a Super Bowl window right now. The goal should be maximizing the chances to win now. In my opinion, it was a massive strategic failure to spend that kind of draft capital on a project player, and end up getting next to zero impact on your football team from your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks in a draft. Look at what 3 1sts and change buys you in established players in the league and imagine adding that kind of impact to your Super Bowl caliber team.

Going into next season, still in a Super Bowl window, you don't trade a functional starting QB in Jimmy Garoppolo unless you get an offer you can't refuse, or you see Trey Lance actually demonstrate that he's the better option. If the team was crap, it would be different. Hopefully Lance comes in to camp and has made a bunch of progress.
The takes in this thread are getting more and more unhinged. If Trey could have done equal to or better than Jimmy -- a "bottom third qb" -- he would have been starting last year. Trey turned 21, meaning he could now legally buy a beer in most states. He's unlikely to be there this year either. So we need a plan.

Trey will be fine - he just needs to play.

Fact Jimmy had 20TDs and 12 INTS in 2021.
Fact Jimmy completed 300 passing attempts this past yr (good for 20th in the league). That's Taylor Heinicke and Teddy Bridgewater level passing.
Fact Jimmy completed 58% of his passes in the playoffs and had more INTs then TDs. You CANT NOT objectively watch those games and say he was the reason they won.

Opinion: You think Trey couldn't have played at a Big Ben, Jared Goff, Heinicke, Tannehill level this yr because they all put up similar stats to Jimmy. Like you said, you saying it would be highly unlikely is just as biased of an opinion and there's no way you will ever be able to disprove it either.

Your take is just as unhinged...saying he's unlikely to be there this yr because he can buy beer now lol. K dude.

The plan sounds like Lance will be the starter and they will wait out any possibility of moving Jimmy down the road once cleared. They wouldn't have been open about moving him for months if they didn't feel Lance was "ready" to start.

It's really that simple. It's cool man you can still wear your Jimmy jersey all the same

Oh and Jimmy did? Or was it the spectacular performance from defense and special teams that got them to the championship? Go ahead keep thinking Jimmy took them to the championship game.
