No season is wasted when you are 7 minutes away from the superbowl. The year before that was a wasted season due to injuries, not last year.

Actually, it was wasted. It was a super bowl or bust with Jimmy last season. Since we didn't win the super bowl and Trey didn't gain any real on the job training and next season is basically going to be his rookie season, it was a waste.

It was wasted in terms of Trey Lance, not in terms of the 49ers. I get that this is the Trey thread, so maybe thats what you are focusing on. But from a team standpoint it was not wasted. I have had season tickets for decades and sat through every game of some real sh**ty seasons. Last year was frustrating at times, but was an absolute blast. It wasnt a wasted season.

I get the argument that since we didnt win and didnt develop Lance in games, we essentially kicked the can down the road a year, which we did. But doing so made for a great season that came up just a little bit short.

Team accomplishment is more important than any individual player.

Kyle and Co. needed another winning season. They got that, and a lot more after starting 3-5.

Also, it's a wasted season only if you believe a QB can't develop without playing. Which if thats the case, then Lance hasn't developed one bit since 2019

Do you need real games to develop? The above QBs show that no you do not.

That said, people acting like Lance would have to replace the stats of some HOF QB is completely false. You cant generalize stats. One game with 150 yards and pick could be different than another game with 150 yards and one pick. That's why I hate stats. A qb could have 400 yards passing and 3tds because he was playing from behind.

Niners vs packers. End of game. Jimmy made the plays Rodgers didn't. Talk about that. We don't know if trey makes those plays. We don't know if trey even has the team in position to beat the rams at the end of the season, or make that drive. It's not f**king stats.

I promise you the list of good QBs in history who started their rookie year is exponentially longer than this list you can come up with of the opposite.

I think there is only so much a player can develop by sitting. Which is why I have absolutely zero interest in him not being our starter unless the starter is Tom Brady.

We are shifting away from JG (in my opinion TL will start Week 1) meaning KS feels TL gives us the best chance going forward. If TL is starting week 1 which he should that tells you he's grown quite a bit as a player in 2021 and this offseason.
