Exactly. A 21 year old rookie QB in his first training camp didn't look polished like a 10 year vet. No sh!t. lol

No named sources won't hold up in a court of law.

I don't think Joe is lying about this. It's not like he wants to be a media personality or anything like that. But those comments are pretty vague. When were they made? Early in TC or during that SB week? Which exact player? Maybe it was Jimmy lol

Kyle Shanahan came so close to winning two Super Bowls and getting to a 3rd with immobile QBs. That'd be different if Matt Ryan and Jimmy G could of picked up a couple 1st downs with their legs like Young, Garcia, or Kaep.

That's all about to change.

And this is how Lance's mobility needs to be used, scrap the designed QB runs, we've all scene what happened to Andrew Luck.

Anyone can kinda piece together that there are hesitations about Lance right now. Some are natural and expected given that he was super raw and played one year at a small school.

However, reading the tea leaves isn't the most encouraging right now:

It was clear that Shanahan didn't trust Lance last year when he ran him into the ground and got him hurt against...was it AZ? It was also clear he had a ways to go when Garoppolo was struggling and banged up and there was never a real consideration for Lance to start. Again, as a rookie without experience or a grasp on the NFL level yet...I can see all of that.

But if Garoppolo sticks around somehow it's a huge red flag for Lance.

It means that he hasn't developed the way they'd like, that they may already start to feel like he's either not ready or not the guy. It also tells me, as someone tweeted, that Shanahan was forced into Lance. I already think that just given that he didn't look for ways to incorporate Lance into game situations at all last year minus the first game.

I know you don't wanna erode a QB's confidence or turn to another guy when he's in a groove. But what about when we needed a jumpstart on offense? There wasn't a single play or two where you could gotten lance involved and gotten him that experience?

If he was a guy that Shanahan so very much coveted, Shanny would have been exploring every way to get him involved without jeopardizing Lance's confidence or a victory. The fact that he didn't is telling.

Once the bullets are flying and this guy actually starts regular season games we'll know. I'm not ready to say the sky is falling but this certainly isn't what you wanna hear. The complete conflict of some people saying "he's looking great" and others--even players--saying "he'll get there" or something else cryptic to allude to the fact that he's not ready at all is worrisome.

I agree with a lot of what you wrote here, except for the part that Kyle wasn't on board with the Lance pick. There's no way they force that pick on him and he just accepts it without raising hell. You don't have to look any further than what he did when he was OC in Cleveland and they selected Johnny Cocaine against his advice.

I do think it's possible he was talked into Lance and may have been given some type of guarantee or assurance in the case Lance doesn't pan out. It's pure speculation at this point, but it's very obvious the team was aware of the fan backlash around a potential Mac Jones pick. That's why you had Jed York's clown act on draft day. That idiot can't help telling on himself.

Can people stop giving this guy attention? He's a FanSided "journalist." FanSided is barely half a step above just posting on a forum like this. Stop legitimizing obvious attention-whores.

💯
Until Lance plays a few games we don't know how good he is or how much he'll struggle. Even coaches can only tell so much in practice. Maybe they expected his throwing motion to be improved or his command of the playbook to be better. I don't know. I don't know if the coaches know at this point. Some guys are better in games than they are in practice. I expect he'll get most of the snaps in August. He certainly needs them. They don't have the luxury of keeping him out of action so he doesn't get hurt.
f**king hilarious since everything coming out of camp last year was how amazing he was
What a coincidence that Trey Lance is underwhelming and also that nobody has ever heard of Matt Lombardo

Someone tell me how lynch's reaction was an indication that Lance was the pick from the start.

IMO Lynch and ownership wanted Lance. Kyle wanted Mac. Shanahan gave in.

Lol, somebody really believes that there´ s someone in the FO with the guts to tell Shanahan to shut up and draft Trey Lance? Seriously?
Kyle is an old school type of coach. He doesn´t accept that type of b******t specially when he´s litterally the HC/GM of the team. If you think for one second that John Lynch, the guy that got his job because of Kyle, told Kyle to take Trey and that´s it, that´s on you.
And why John would do that? He doesn´t care that Kyle wants a RB in the third round every year seemingly. Jed is what he is but he knows the luck he has to have Kyle as coach. Why would he order him to take a QB that Kyle doesn´ t want?
Just look at Shanahan in the press conference after the first round and tell me, that´s someone that is angry. The guy was having the time of his life making fun of all the medias that thought he would go with Mac.

See RG3.

And I don't think it was forced on him at all but I do believe there were some promises made if trey doesn't work out.

We're doing this again? This is Kyle's team. Exactly 0% chance he let anyone "talk him into" picking Lance.

It may be that everyone was on the table when he called Lynch. I just don't know. But lynch's reaction was awfully strange for a guy they knew they were drafting from the start. We won't know for a long time.
