They are projecting what they love onto Trey amd believe it will translate. The reality, however, is he hasn't looked great so far. The hope is that he will make huge strides this year. But the fans who are already annointing him have no f**king clue how he will turn out. Let's pump the brakes on the expectations, see how he progresses this season, and hope it turns out fantastic.

I am all in on Trey because I love the IDEA of a superstar QB. I know he isnt that, and he might never be that. But we all know Jimmy isnt, and will never be. I have always maintained the opinion that if you dont have an elite QB, you should never stop looking for one.

If in 3 or 4 years, Trey is looking like he will never be that player, it will be time to look elsewhere again.

Shame on us for having some optimism that Lance can be the guy. You can't hit a homerun if you don't swing hard. And you're right, if in 2024 he looks lost and confused, then we move on.

Yep. There is nothing worse for a franchise than being tied to a QB who is somewhere between slightly below average and slightly above average. I commend Lynch and Kyle for taking a chance here.

I do believe Lance has the skillset and head to be a great QB. Time will tell if he is able to reach his potential or not.

Agreed on all points.

I'm just hesitant to go all in. I think it has to do with being a bay area sports fan who really never had a guy who came out with all these expectations, and then eventually meet or exceed those expectations. All the superstars came out of nowhere - Montana, young, Curry, Rice.

The guys I've seen drafted high with super high expectations - Alex Smith, anyone drafted by the warriors pre lacob, etc have disappointed.

Buster Posey. Enough said.

I will say the same for the fans that are already calling him a bust.

Yup. Take it day by day…not sure why everyone has to be so reactionary or extreme with him? He's 22 and into his third day of camp as the starter.

Why can't we be level headed and realize that there will be ups and downs while he develops?

oh and I love how all of a sudden we got QB gurus all over the place pretending they actually know mechanics 😂

I believe the initial game plan was to get Kirk Cousins as the franchise QB, and then as he ages, draft his replacement. I think the plan - to a certain extent - ran it's course. They got Jimmy, he was good, maybe even better than Kirk, but injuries did take a toll and he, in a sense, aged fast and hence Trey Lance. They built a good team around Jimmy (or it could have been Kirk) to start winning more games than losing, and once that team was built - Kyle's idea was to load up and go all in on a QB with hall of fame level athleticism. At least I'd like to think Kyle was that far thinking.

For me, I don't care if Lance runs 20 times a game, if that's the best way to attack the defense. It's not about the frequency, it's about whether he protects himself on the run plays. And the stats people should make a differentiation between designed QB runs and QB scrambles. This would give us a better idea of what he's being asked to do. If a QB has 3 designed runs and 7 scrambles in a game, that's very different than if it was vice versa.

Absolutely.

when josh allen was making our defense look like the three stooges during that monday night game
shanahan knew what he wanted right then and there

Some are upset because the 9ers decided to move on from Jimmy. Others are upset because Kyle didn't draft the QB they wanted.

Regardless of what some think of Lance, It's Important the fan base at least gives him a full year before calling him a bust.

Any fan who labels Trey a bust after just one full season starting has unreasonable expectations. Trey has barely any experience at all, and the bulk of his experience was at the FCS level where his team outclassed its competition. He was a project coming out and that's exactly what he looked like in his limited playing time. He's raw and he's going to need time.

That being said, I think there's a lot of reason to criticize his selection given the state of our team. We have a roster capable of contention and to potentially sacrifice the immediate ceiling of that team in order to develop a QB is a strategy I find very hard to support. It cost us last year. It will likely cost us this year.

There were a lot of different things we could have done with what we invested in Trey Lance. That's not a criticism of Trey as an individual, and to make it one would be unfair.

Mortgaged our future for this goofball. Ughhhh

This isnt the Russell WIlson thread on the Denver Broncos site

This. If you don't like Trey's personality you're probably the goofball.

He's just soft and not ready for the League. It's obvious.. all over his face and body language. I don't care how much our staff tries to prop him up, they don't have a choice... this administration is tied to him. And unfortunately, they tied themselves to an anchor.

Oh well.

Oh I see... we're just making s**t up this morning.

Are you the same that said you could tell that Trey was scared sitting on the bench from the look in his eye?

Dude just had a major hardon for Fields and is still pissed we didn't pick him.

Fields (whom I liked as well) had like 4 or 5 INTs yesterday. They're all young and learning.

anyone in here acting like they can tell he's scared, soft or whatever made up BS you want to toss in here should take a seat on the butt bench and chill out lol. My god people.

I wouldn't say that Steph and Rice came out of nowhere. They were both first round draft picks.
