Definitely. Jimmy was just one step below Tier 1 (just my opinion). He was able to get the 49ers into a super bowl, just not win it. Most super bowl QB's are much more durable than Jimmy, also. Those injuries, I think, has eroded his physical talents - not that he's had great mobility either. Both Joe and Steve were much more mobile than Jimmy. Joe and Steve had great deep ball accuracy, and Joe could throw outside the hashmarks, just not past 20+ yards downfield regularly. That wasn't his game. But Joe - when he threw the deep ball - there was basically nobody around Jerry because he's looked them off. Like you said, Jimmy is a good QB, maybe with a bit more time and him devoting more time to his mechanics - maybe get above where he is at, but I don't think he'll reach tier 1 any time soon.

I'm excited for Trey. His mindset and attitude reminds me a bit of Joe and Steve. Joe would stay after practice and throw with Dwight, and Joe would actually get into training camp early and throw with the rookies when he didn't have to. Joe also would take his OLine to dinner - something I'm sure Trey will do at some point once the OLine is established. Trey is already doing a lot of those things.

just below tier 1? Nah . Starting caliber yes. That's a very subjective thing to discuss anyway.

yeah I think Jimmy is who he is and has had the luxury of being on a couple good rosters with top end coaching staffs. Regardless I wish him well and thank him for being part of making this team watachable and relevant again.

Agree to disagree on Jimmy.

But I agree with you and I am also very appreciative of Jimmy and what he brought to the 49ers. He's brought some great leadership, no drama. Loved the way he came, threw, and left without making a splash and distract Trey and the team. His great leadership allowed a lot of wins to come his way. I think he'll continue to win on another team, but I foresee more injuries for him unfortunately -- that will limit him more and more as time goes on.

Shame on us for having some optimism that Lance can be the guy. You can't hit a homerun if you don't swing hard. And you're right, if in 2024 he looks lost and confused, then we move on.

So be like the Browns? Lol

You'd think a fan base would get behind a kid like Lance. Dude is as humble as they get. You can tell all he wants to do is be great and is working his ass off to get there. Teammates have said he's a leader regardless of is age. They and the coaches love him. He's not gonna need a stipulation in his contract saying you actually study film either lol.

and his skill set is everything you want in todays QB. He's clearly not there 100% and no one should expect that right now.

I mean I just don't see why there's so much distain for this kid in his own teams fan forum or on the internet? Hasn't even gotten to play football to the level of judging anything.

Yep, forum is full of haters. Give the kid a chance ffs!

Yeah because that's what I implied.

Yup. Take it day by day…not sure why everyone has to be so reactionary or extreme with him? He's 22 and into his third day of camp as the starter.

Why can't we be level headed and realize that there will be ups and downs while he develops?

oh and I love how all of a sudden we got QB gurus all over the place pretending they actually know mechanics 😂

This isnt the Russell WIlson thread on the Denver Broncos site

This. If you don't like Trey's personality you're probably the goofball.

He's just soft and not ready for the League. It's obvious.. all over his face and body language. I don't care how much our staff tries to prop him up, they don't have a choice... this administration is tied to him. And unfortunately, they tied themselves to an anchor.

Oh well.

Oh I see... we're just making s**t up this morning.

Are you the same that said you could tell that Trey was scared sitting on the bench from the look in his eye?

Dude just had a major hardon for Fields and is still pissed we didn't pick him.

Fields (whom I liked as well) had like 4 or 5 INTs yesterday. They're all young and learning.

anyone in here acting like they can tell he's scared, soft or whatever made up BS you want to toss in here should take a seat on the butt bench and chill out lol. My god people.
The time to panic is when your 8 year vet is throwing 5 INTs in camp

Yeah even then it's still practice.

Rodgers had a 5 INT practice like 3 years ago. It happens. It's TC. Anyone putting any stock in TC stat lines are just searching for narratives or just reallllly desperate for the off-season to be over.

The danger with this line, "Jimmy had the luxury of _____" is that you'll get frustrated when it's used for Lance. You want to get behind Lance, as any of us should, but I can promise you any success he has this season people will add that caveat.

Jimmy is better than what a lot of teams in the NFL have. Leave it at that. If Lance is better then bully for us. When you add caveats to Jimmy due to the team, you'll have to add those to Lance.

Or some are just trying to be consistent. Panic then, panic now.

Hopefully, it turns into another SB birth

Of course you do. If the 49ers have a top 3 defense this year and say Justin Fields has a bottom 3 defense, you can't say that Lance didn't have the advantage. The only real difference is that Lance is basically still a rookie and Jimmy was an 8 year vet.

But I do expect that fans will judge them as the same anyway. That's just how it is.

Hopefully you'll be calling people who criticize Lance "haters" as you did with Jimmy (on games you consider to be good performances) #consistency

TL isn't a rook, or basically a rook. He talked about it with HOF QB K. Warner. Last year OTAs his head was swimming. Now it is a world of difference. He's a 2nd year pro, with some starts under the belt.

He just turned 22 years old and this is the first time he will get a full offseason with the ones. Not even close to a 8 year vet but okay.
