At the end of the day, none of this matters. The team is ready to win now. There are vets that can't afford to waste any seasons. You think a HOF like Trent will be fine with waiting another 2 to 3 years? Doubt it. He won't be in the locker room thinking, " well at least he's not jimmy" lol
Trent is probably extremely stoked at Treys upside. More big plays and ability to run makes his job easier.
Probably. I'm sure he's going to like a QB that can extend plays when protection fails. But on the flip side, scrambling QBs can also make OT life a little harder. Not knowing where the QB is going to be sitting/scrambling might lead to some unnecessary holding calls. Also, OT like to know that ball out in 2.5 -3 seconds.
Anyways, that's beside the point I was making. So let's try and get back to that. At the end of the day, he wants to win, whether it's a mobile QB or pocket QB .
here's a quote after joining the 9ers with our previous QB.
"I've played a lot of football, I haven't won a lot of games," Williams said. "I just wanted that to change. I'm an ultracompetitive guy regardless. I tend to probably go the extra mile when I shouldn't. Doing that when you know that at the end of the year when you have a real possibility of holding up the Lombardi Trophy, I think it makes you -- it's a lot easier. The vibe is different. You work for a different reason as opposed to just trying to maintain a level of elite play when games might not go your way every Sunday."
I think the players do feel like Trent, in that they have a good shot at the playoffs and beyond this year. Maybe even a 6th 🏆. Trey is going to be key in that pursuit.
I think teams are going to play zone predominantly against Trey, if he develops as a passer. If teams play Man against Trey, he can turn and just run it for huge gains a la Kaepernick in the Green Bay playoffs. I predict that the running backs are going to have huge pass receiving numbers this year because defenses will drop to cover Trey's howitzer deep passes, and will have to come up to stop Trey's possible broken field runs. Those RB dump offs are going to gash a lot of defenses. Again, this is if Trey develops as a passer.
But first and foremost, Trey has to handle the blitz almost as well as Jimmy did last year as a first step to develop into a great passer.
