Dallas Cowboys QB Trey Lance Thread

I think it's really interesting that Trey has some really good plays against our defense. Tells me he is going to be better than average initially. Not many QBs do good against our defense.

i love That against tight coverage and a really tough defense, he is still making some great plays. There are awesome things on the horizon this season and by game 10, expect to see a monster.

Biderman said the players are openly talking about Superbowl in a fashion he's never heard before esp. this early. They really believe it.

Sounds like they are setting themselves up for disappointment.

I think it will require a ton of hard work, and luck.

Lance is going to have ups and downs. Impossible not to. That means some W's may become losses.

I'm not trying to be a cynic, but he's a first year starting QB. I don't know why, but I am just hoping we see growth from him throughout the season, but wouldn't be surprised if we end up around 500 and just outside the playoffs either. It is difficult for me to have any hype with such an unknown QB and o line. Once we see a few games it will become much clearer.

True. Although under different circumstances, Aaron Rodgers has not been able to do anything against our D. So there's that.
I wonder how much Trey will play in the pre season. It seems like the NFL is terrified of putting their starters on the field during the pre season preferring instead to let them start the season without really being ready. It hasn't always been thus way but as salaries have gone up, teams want to protect their high priced talent.

It might be different with Trey since he needs to play. The more reps he gets the better. I know they always worry about having a player get injured in pre season but the injury possibility is there when the season starts if the players aren't ready. Do we need to see Sudfield? I'd like to see Trey for a quarter or two in each game. It seems like we see key guys go down in the first game every year. They used to play the starters for the 1st quarter in the first pre season game. Game 3 was a full dress rehearsal. The players need to get some hits in before the real action starts if they're going to be ready. In Trey's case he needs to get game time since he's played so little in the past 2 years.

I'm guessing the usual one or two drives game one. A full half game two, then sits game 3.
I put together a breakdown of most of Trey's 11-on-11 drop backs from the first 7 days of camp. (Credit: Rohan Chakravarthi)

Nice to have some context to go along with the stats.

Seems like last years guys played more than they normally would in pre season.

Probably helps that our defense can't tackle him.

With only 3 games they have to find a way to get them some game time. Last night, the Raiders and Jags didn't play their starters on offense but they have one extra pre season game. I understand not wanting guys to get hurt but it's football. Players get hurt in games and practice. It's unavoidable and the players know it. They have a better chance of not getting hurt if they're in good playing shape.

being careful with players and doing the bubble wrap thing gets them hurt more often than not i think

He may play a bit more than that, considering he's not had much reps since he's been drafted. But agree on that 3rd game. 49ers need to evaluate the players and backups, and game 3 will be important for the backups and soon to be free agents, to make the team or put their game on tape to shop to other teams if they are let go.

Lol at thinking less than 60% is successful in today's NFL. There were only a few below 60% last year and not a single one of them had a good season. Not one.

The lack of confidence and excuses already for Trey... Let's let the guy play.

https://www.nfl.com/stats/player-stats/category/passing/2021/reg/all/passingyards/desc

They're already lining up the excuses. Ridiculous. Let him play and fight through the criticism. We gave up a ton of picks for him and dumped a very successful QB that he's replacing.

So successful that nobody wants him.

The biggest indicator from pre season will be inter scrimmage practices with the Vikings in about 2 weeks.

The viking media wont sugar coat things and it will be good reps against a team that doesnt know the plays/tendencies

The schedule is good for Trey to learn on the job. We can beat CHI and SEA with a few rookie mistakes along the way.

Trey would have to implode to lose those games.

The DEN and LAR games will be big tests but CAR and ATL are easy wins

We can realistically start 4-2 with Trey learning on the job.

The key is showing signs of improvement as he goes and no implosions.
