I still think he should have started last year and it was a mistake to redshirt him.

While I do think there's merit to having him start Day 1, there's also merit to redshirting and getting to develop without all the pressure of being The Guy. I think there's a lot of QB's who just got absolutely crushed in their first year (usually on a bad team) and never having the confidence. Obviously, there's cases of guys like Peyton Manning starting from Day 1, and cases of guys like Aaron Rodgers & Patrick Mahomes getting to wait... So it's not a terrible either way.

I'm actually of the opinion that we would've had to scale back the offense too much if we started him Day 1. His first game against the Cardinals showed that Shanahan didn't think Trey was ready to do a lot of things, so called a lot of designed QB runs. I could see the argument that he should've started the Texans game onward though... especially with Jimmy having a bad finger.

But all in all... Trey got to have a whole season of watching Jimmy and learning how to be a pro. He got to see how the Shanahan Offense should look, and he got to watch how a veteran QB leads in the playoffs. Sure, he needs his reps now, but I think the 2021 season will have so many lessons that serve Trey well for the rest of his career.
Days like today will happen, especially on the back end of three days of work. The thing I'm worried about is the repeated reports of mid-range inaccuracy. Gotta fix that.

Massive two-week stretch coming up with game reps Friday then two days of practice reps against the Vikes. It's going to be HUGE for psyche of the fan base and the national narrative.

This was ALWAYS his biggest weakness. Ironically, his PFF draft guide also listed it as his biggest weakness. While also saying....

Some of the worst ball-placement numbers among the top QBs. Accuracy is an issue.

I have been on record stating I don't think accuracy is something that can be learned. I was told it was. We shall see.

Literally the only guy in the history of football that you can point to. I'll grant you him but he's literally the only one IMO.

I'm not talking raising completion % either.

Well Josh Allen exists so you've already been proven indisputably wrong on this.

If I remember correctly, Chiefs fans were just as critical as Mahomes as Niner fans are of Trey. Actually it was much worse. Here it's atleast close to 50/50 in the hate to love category.
Yeah definitely nothing to lose any sleep over and I'm not worried but he really has been consistently mediocre in practice from what I've read. The dude needs a season at least before any real judgement.
fudging bust.

I am the believer that with confidence, comes accuracy. And what I mean by that is if a QB gets in a groove they can feel like they can't miss and feel they can make any throw. On the other hand you can have a great accurate QB who might miss a couple of times, Then start feeling the pressure and all of a sudden can't hit the broad side of a barn. It's all mental. 75% of this game is mental.

It's funny how people try to use an outlier to fit a narrative.

I think there is some truth to that BUT you only feel the pressure if you are playing the way you are accustomed to and not happy with.

I don't think a great accurate QB would feel the pressure after a couple of missed throws. IMO
