Lol. Its okay to say that he played like s**t today. Anyway, there's gonna be ups and downs this season and I accepted that already for a first year starter
I still think he should have started last year and it was a mistake to redshirt him.
While I do think there's merit to having him start Day 1, there's also merit to redshirting and getting to develop without all the pressure of being The Guy. I think there's a lot of QB's who just got absolutely crushed in their first year (usually on a bad team) and never having the confidence. Obviously, there's cases of guys like Peyton Manning starting from Day 1, and cases of guys like Aaron Rodgers & Patrick Mahomes getting to wait... So it's not a terrible either way.
I'm actually of the opinion that we would've had to scale back the offense too much if we started him Day 1. His first game against the Cardinals showed that Shanahan didn't think Trey was ready to do a lot of things, so called a lot of designed QB runs. I could see the argument that he should've started the Texans game onward though... especially with Jimmy having a bad finger.
But all in all... Trey got to have a whole season of watching Jimmy and learning how to be a pro. He got to see how the Shanahan Offense should look, and he got to watch how a veteran QB leads in the playoffs. Sure, he needs his reps now, but I think the 2021 season will have so many lessons that serve Trey well for the rest of his career.
