You know who you are
No where does it say they were considering Mac lol

Shanahan was asked to name the second quarterback.

"Mac," the 49ers coach responded. "Yeah, Mac Jones and Trey. Those were the two guys that we were locked in on from the beginning, and if we never moved up to [No. 3], we would have never had the chance to learn more about Trey. That was the hardest thing. You've got to be so sneaky and stuff when you're back there because you don't want people hopping in front of you, and I had a very strong feeling people were going to hop in front of us.

From that I take that Kyle was looking to move up to get Mac at three and decided to check out Lance since he was now on the table and liked him better.

We would have had a different story if Zach Wilson played better. He was heavily scouted

Pretty f**king sure that means the move was for Jones

Also

Shanahan added that he can't pinpoint when the decision shifted to Lance, but the coach obviously got to the point where he felt good about picking him over Jones.

Being he went 15 that would've been the biggest reach of all time considering the compensation given up.

It's easy to predict the past

Kittle on Trey:

"I think he's got a ton of ability, and ... what we do with some of the run game stuff, we can get in the empty [backfield], and we can run gap scheme power with him running the football, which you don't really see a lot of teams do," Kittle shared. "Hey, you know what's crazy? If you have Trent Williams, George Kittle, and Mike McGlinchey running gap scheme power, hey, good luck, especially if you're going against a nickel or a dime defense. Hey, good luck getting blocked, man. Hey, have fun.

"There's just a lot of things we can do with it. He's also got a canon. He can throw deep balls. And honestly, like I said, he's just gotten better, progressively. And we have what? Twenty days of camp left where we've got a couple of preseason games, and we have a nice 16-day block right there after the third preseason game where we can really refine some stuff and see what we want to do with our offense, and I'm really looking forward to that."

"RG3 was such a different runner," Williams said after admitting that he doesn't see many similarities between what the 49ers are doing with Lance and what Shanahan did with Griffin in Washington. "It's such a different style. He had track speed. All the plays were designed to get him on the edge. We never ran a quarterback power or a quarterback sweep with RG. It was all about getting him on the edge, getting him to threaten people with his feet, with his speed, and then hitting the play-actions off of that.

"I think Trey is much further along as a pocket quarterback. As a runner, he doesn't have the track speed RG had, but he has the size, so we can send him up the middle on power, QB power, or like we've seen in Green Bay, the QB sweep. We never did that with Robert. We can do that with Trey. It's just a different skill set with running the ball that, as far as a quarterback, I think he gives us an ability to do more because he's a willing pocket passer.

"We've got outstanding receivers, and if the quarterback can't get them the ball, they're kind of obsolete. I think that's what he does, and that's what's going to give us a chance. And I think that's why Kyle and them [drafted] him, because of the things that he can do. It gives you the RG3-style offense and the Jimmy Garoppolo-style offense merged in one."

There are some seriously important pieces to this.

These pieces need to be added to this thread:

So excited for this season to kick off!!!!!

i like mac but treys ability to escape the pocket will benefit him this year as he learns

Really doesn't matter since the Jets reportedly had zero interest in trading down whatsoever. For better or worse, NY got the guy they wanted. In a few years we can look back and see who knocked it out of the park and who got hosed.

Get'em, Trey.
Trey is gonna have a very up and down year I think as he gets his starting QB lumps, I just hope our fan base doesn't turn on the dude and mess up his confidence if he has a couple bag games in a row. This is a pretty hostile environment for any QB who isn't a hall of famer

After giving Alex like 7 years we want faster results

Nope. I got he was comfortable with Mac at 12 but to get a good look at Lance he knew he had to move up so he could look at him without hiding and then he got his guy

Everyone knew we didn't have to move up to three and give what we did to get Mac Jones

That was a draft day trade at best. That move up in terms of talent and game breaking ability was for Trey Lance or Justin Fields both of whom went predictably before Mac Jones

We have better coaches now. The second Alex got Harbaugh he went to winning. This is a completely different situation for Trey

Everyone knew that Mac Jones wasn't going too three until Chris's Simms started yelling Mac Jones after we traded up

He wasn't valued by any other club at three so we didn't need to trade three firsts to get dude in February or March

The trade up was so we could look at the Trey Lances and Justin Fields of the world. We could have looked at Mac all we wanted at 12 as no one else was beating down the block to trade up for him. He barely went too twenty

Would have been a waste of draft capital

Glad we didn't decide on Mac. He's supposedly really struggling in his second year.
