Yeah it was mentioned a while ago right before the draft. Makes all the Cowherd videos about him praising Lance right up to the draft look suspicious now lol.

Not really, most Dad's go out of their way to find faults with their Daughters boyfriends. Cowherd even said Trey blew him away meeting him. I'd say it's another win.

I like Lynch, he has a good head on his shoulders. He knows how to handle Kyle. He basically gives Kyle the information Kyle needs to make good decisions. Example, they changed the medical grading system to highlight the potential draftees previous injures. He's able to self scout and learn from the Reuben Foster incidents.
The most important thing I like about John is he knows his job is to support Kyle and not be the coach (opposit of the way Baalke seemed to run things). An added bonus is that he has a great relationship with Mike Shanahan, who he probably has relied on to influence Kyle in a certain direction John thinks he needs to go (possible example is the Kirk Cousins model vs the Mobile QB model). And was able to get Kyle to draft Trey.
Both Kyle and John love football and have a great relationship and I think that's probably the best thing about them I like the most. They could easily have thrown each other under the bus with regards to not drafting Mahomes, but they didn't, instead both learned from that mistake and got Trey.
Yes, his comments about the whole Foster thing were pretty interesting, how he was thinking he could reach him as a person, and how that turned out to be more of Lynch looking at it through his prior player-to-player perspective, where he actually felt he was able to reach people like this, but in his current role the dynamics are just different.
I don't know anything about his relationship with Mike Shanahan, so good to hear that. A reporter was trying to get a scoop from Mike right before the draft, and was surprised that when Mike called him back, the caller ID showed that the call came from the 49ers' Santa Clara headquarters, which meant that Mike was in the building working with them pre-draft, I thought that was awesome.

We had numerous good bounces? What are you talking about? We played one of the toughest schedules while dealing with some of the worst injury situation in the league that year. We completely outplayed Seattle all year long and needed to beat them at their house to even win their division because they coasted and got a cheap win over us with half the team out due to injury, including the kicker who missed a game winner in OT
Who had an answer for our running game when we were healthy and committed to it? KC didn't stop it, we stopped it.
We don't know if our defense was better then or will be next year. It certainly wasn't great in the 2nd half of the season. Losing Buckner and not having Ford is a downgrade. Getting younger players to develop further and having an actually legit corner in Verrett to play with a great DL is another situation.
Overall I'd say our team is definitely better on paper.
Hear hear. Nice post brother! I concur

Like most good broadcasters, he likes the spotlight, but he's all talk and no substance. It's questionable whether he is competent, but he does seem to be getting better, hopefully. At least he helps do what Kyle wants done. He is smart, so maybe he's getting better? They are lucky to have Parage, & they would be smart to try to hire a wise man like John McVay, etc (or Rsrkshn, mad dog, or me).

Meh . . . questionable. A lot of games were close that year if I recollect correctly. The Niners could have had 3, 4 more losses if the ball doesn't bounce their way.
I don't knw about "completely outplaying Seattle" either. Both games were really close. That doesn't qualify as "completely outplaying". If you were a Seattle fan, you could (and did) argue that the Hawks were robbed by a pass interference non-call by Warner in the end zone.
Some players did get nicked up during the season, as is to be expected, but they were rested and strong for the push in the playoffs. Luck was on the 49ers side that season.
As rosters go, Defense is a big question mark. New DC. I wouldn't claim that it's better. They have to prove it. We'll have to see how they gel. Offense? Yea should be better. Especially if Lance plays. But as a whole team, you definitely need a complementary defense. We'll see.

I'm so stoked. While there aren't a ton of job openings, there are FAR more real competitions with young players pushing veterans and veterans pushing young players. That's significant.

For sure! It's mostly all about Lance! If he's pushing Jimmy, he should be starting. As Kyle said "we know what Jimmy is". If Trey is already pushing Jimmy, he only going to get exponentially better the more he plays.
Come on Trey . . . don't disappoint. Just do it!!

Not on national tv though. His reporting on Tre is biased.

Same here brother![]()
Soooo freaking excited for the Trey Lance era! Truly believe we got one of um boys, the future QB faces of the NFL with Mahomes, Jackson, Murray, Herbert, Allen etc... No doubt in my mind Lance will be in that tier
Yeah, same here, can't wait to see the rook play.
I wonder who he considers a good GM. Lynch helped rebuild a terrible team that made it to the SB in 3 years. He mentioned Carman Policy as being a bad GM but he was fine with the Niners. I seem to remember some SB wins when he was here. So I ask again, who is a great GM? What makes a great GM? SB wins? Season results? Pro Bowl players? No GM wins every year or hits on every draft pick.

He'll be fine, Rsrkshn - no problem.
