Didn't it take a long time for Garrison Hearst to come back from that terrible ankle injury?

I wonder whose was worse I hope it isn't as bad as it sounds (comments and reports).

I think the question we should be asking is why is Tua throwing for 400 yards and 6 tds while we're running the ball 11/14 plays and using our qb as a rb, then our best receiver as a rb too. Kyle is obviously one of the best offensive minds in football but geez it's not hard. Get some speed and toss it down the field.

* Missed season Covid. Not his fault but it happened in College.

* Year 1 doesn't play much. Missed season.

* Year 2 ineffective, struggles, loses 1st game. Early 2nd game down and injured for the season. Lost year.

Now you have 3 lost seasons in a row. For a guy who struggles with reading the field, accuracy, throwing mechanics. He has a major injury to his wheels. He's going to come back faster and more dynamic after all of this? He wasn't even the better athlete compared to Fields before. Certainly not Lamar Jackson. In NFL history with this start can you think of anybody who becomes the next Mahomes or Brady or Rodgers? I don't think there are any ever.

Definitely we gave up too much for him. It's highly likely he is a long shot to work out now. It's unfortunate about the injury. I never want to see somebody get hurt. But if you look at it realistically this is such a terrible situation now.

He was looking pretty good this game until the injury. The team would have won. He would have learned.

And it's pretty hysterical you think one season ending injury means it's over for his career

I know you have a certain type account... but I'll say maybe we should trade Trey. Move on. Kyle is determined to keep doing the same thing with Trey going forward, as he's said in his presser today. An injury will just happen again.

So it would be good for Trey. He could go to another team that would just use him in a less wreckless manner.

Would be good for Kyle (especially if we never get another QB again that is explosive), so Kyle can stick to Jimmy G type offensive approach.

Be good for the fans long term.

We won't get the same return we gave up, BUT we'll have a starter and consistency on offense. If Jimmy comes back on the cheap, or we roll with Purdy...and draft some other Whi... er...Conventional QB!

In 1994 Mike Shanahan had peak Steve Young with the #1 offense in the league. We were 18th in passing attempts and 6th in rushing attempts.

In 1997 Mike had HOF Elway, the #1 offense they were 20th in passing attempts, 4th in rushing, if I remember right.
In 98, 21st in passing attempts. 2nd in rushing attempts.

In 2005 the Broncos went 13-3. They were 25th in passing attempts, 2nd in rushing attempts.

In 2012 WAS was 30th in passing attempts and 3rd in rushing attempts.

2013 and 14 Falcons were 3rd in passing attempts and 32nd and 27th in rushing attempts.
2016, under Kyle they were 26th in passing attempts and 12th in rushing.

2019 we were 30th in pass attempts 2nd in rushing.
2021 30th in pass attempts and 6th in rushing.

People have extrapolated our pass attempts rankings to Jimmy. It's a Shanahan thing. We were never and will never be a pass heavy team under Kyle and win. We only pass it a lot when the run game isn't working AND we're behind.

Those who thought Trey was brought in to throw the ball around didn't understand the Shanahan system.

Remember too, in 1994 there were only 28 teams and in 97 and 98 there were 30 so those rankings are even lower than they first appear.

Well said, very well said, it just to me like seems there's so many posters who have the internet curse of "having to sound right first" instead of actually accepting that its a sport, and nothing that they say or anyone else says is ever absolutely predictable….in sports or for that matter anything, but I digress. This is a good team and should be competitive going further….

All depends on the specifics. If it's that bad, and has the same complications, then we better get Purdy up to speed and start looking for another guy. Fortunately we draft well in the late rounds so we can use our premium picks to trade up for a other guy.

Did you watch that game? The Phins were down 28-7 at the half. After the half McDaniels abandoned the run game and they flung it around. Thats the only time we're doing that as well.

I fell asleep to it at half thinking Miami was just gonna get steamrolled.

My opinion.. not all contact is equal. This is essentially a qb sneak. He gets behind his line and keeps his feet driving. No violent contact imo. On the TL play he gets squared up and jolted in open field by two defenders at once a DT and a LB.

Agreed, but Trey's injury wasn't the result of violent contact. His ankle got caught underneath him and a 350-pound Samoan landed on top of him.

We ran him into two front seven defenders and he got destroyed. What part of that wasn't contact? What part wasn't violent? Why are we putting him in a spot where a 350 dt and a maybe 230 lb can square him up and land on him at the same time? And we did that by design. That was the play call.

Hearst had nerve/blood circulation damage totally different from Trey. Trey isn't going to miss next year let alone week 1 just breaking an ankle

Tua threw for 400 yards and 6 TDs because Miami was down 35-14 in the 3rd quarter.

I like trey but this might be it. This marriage just isnt gonna work. Kyle cant develop guys. If daboll gets trey he will become a monster.
we must not give up on trey. remember how curry missed a lot of time early in his career because of ankle injuries, the warriors could have given up on him but they stuck with him.

Well, some things we did/do know. QB's running into big, mean and violent defenders definitely increases chance of injury.

Trey was drafted for his ability to force 11 on 11 football with his running ability. That's been covered by Kyle 800 times. I talked about how Kyle brought Trey in for this and people interpreted their criticisms of Jimmy as reasons Kyle wanted Trey.

Treys injury sucks because the offense Kyle spent the entire off-season planning for a Trey Lance offense and Trey needed the reps, badly.

Jimmy hasn't had any off-season with the team, hasn't even had practice reps with anyone other than PS and 4th stringers and will now have to lead an offense rebuilding it's playbook as 2/3 of our RB's weren't here last year or our IOL in their positions as well as our 4th and 5th receivers.

It's only week 2, we're #1nin the division and we still have a highly talented team with a QB that we've ended in the top and top 4 in the league so it's not like 2018 where we were stuck with Beathard/Mullens.

The fact that this was legit our plan is baffling. I thought we drafted TL to be a FQB who can kill teams from the pocket.. maybe give us that off schedule no one is open threat.. you see Mahomes run 7 yards and hold the ball out as he's going out of bounds all the time.. stuff like that.

To think great football minds sat around and thought it wise to spend three ones to use their QB like an RB.. when we can't keep RBs healthy to save our bleeping bleeps .. lord ..

I think 49erFaithful6 meant that he expected Lance to operate from the pocket as a passer with running being secondary to that, rather than running him 13 times a game. And I agree with him.

Extend plays, move the pocket, playaction into a bootleg....things like that. Not running between the tackles double digit times a game.
