lol he still has 3 more years.

It's a 4 year deal. You have a 5th year option but it's expensive. 2 years are done. After year 3 you are either picking up year 5 or not.

That's what I thought. We basically wasted this kids development and now when he's back we have to make a rash decision to sign him to a huge deal on very little evidence that he's the future

You realize rookie 1st round pick deals are 5 years, right?

Even if Lance s**ts the bed in his third year, they have to pick up his 5th option regardless. If they don't they'll look like fools for trading the farm away. Even Alex Smith got 7 years, with that said Smith didn't start out his career on IR.

This sound awfully familiar. Hmmm.

Double down on a fail project would be a disaster.

He didn't have Shanahan either though. He had a revolving door of s**tty coaches.

The fact that Shanahan didn't even seem remorseful about it is kind of ridiculous to me. Dude broke his ankle running up the gut and he says it was justified. He's been running this dude between the tackles every time he gets on the field, does he think he's indestructible or something? He's a QB and he runs upright, he's going to get wrecked just like he did yesterday. If he wants to run him why not send him outside the tackles where he atleast has a chance? I hope Trey bounces back and looks incredible but this is not how you develop QBs

Kyle said he's going to keep doing it.

So like I've posted before, if I were Trey's Dad... I'd force the issue like Eli's Manning's Dad Archie did. Sure you look like an a*****e to the fan base, and to some other organizations.. but I think most the media and opposing fans would understand. They remember Kyle's pops. Have to look out for your son, if the head coach isn't going to.

I believe Kyle says Trey needs to run like this to be successful in this league... and some here have also repeated that statement. What's funny is Kyle's Dad Mike said the exact same thing to RG3. He said Robert, this is the only way you can be successful.

I don't believe this to be true with any QB... running up the middle on designed runs? f**k that. And hell if I didn't say it in the NFL section of this forum during gamedays, I've said it on other forums... I've said the same thing about Josh Allen... and even Lamar (who is even smaller than both Josh and Trey).

If it's happening once in a while?... I guess sure... if it's needed in the playoffs? sure. But other wise the risk reward option of trying it multiple times a game up the middle is not worth it. I don't care that Lamar just got a TD with a similar play yesturday.. I wouldn't care if Trey got one on that play he got injured... SO f**kING WHAT? WHOOPDIE DOO! One TD....one 20 yard run... one bla bla... all those are not worth putting your prize possession in harms way multiple times a game. In a long f**king 17 game season.

So yeah if I were Trey's Dad... man there are other HCs in this league that would love to have him. You see the s**t these Coaches have to trot out to the field each game?... watching Mitch Trubisky, Old Ass Matt Ryan, etc yesturday.... I'm sure the Colts would love to have Trey, and I'd doubt they would have him going head first in between the tackles. We've already traded them a great player for a high pick in Buckner...so our credibility is high. so I'm sure they'd trust us for a trade for Trey. It won't be the same for what we gave up. s**t maybe Kyle will be for it if the Colts throw in Matt Ryan.. then Kyle will have another QB he trusts.

Very true. Mike Nolan really hurt Smith's career early. At least Smith was able to bounce back and show everyone he can win in the league.

I've told my younger Brother for years... don't only learn from your mistakes, but learn from other people's mistakes.

Hopefully our situation was a wake up call for them... and this means they will be more cautious with him, with calling less runs up the middle.

So, from what I can gather from the two pressers is that if/when Trey is back next season Kyle is just gonna keep running him up the middle.

I mean what could go wrong?

I feel like this is a storyline straight out of The Onion

Hindsight is 20/20, no one knows what the future will hold, no one knew this was gonna happen, no one thought Jimmy would still be a 49er.

This was always going to be the case. Ready at best by year 3. Which happens to be the year you declare 5th year option

Isn't it after his 3rd year tho? That's they will get a year of play barring injury to make that decision

After their 3rd season, they have to decide by May 3rd 2023 on his fifth year option for 2025, like the 49ers need to decide by next May on Aiyuk & Kinlaw, both IMO will be exercised, no reason not to, unless they know they can sign them to long term deals, you don't do something dumb and decline it, and then the dude balls out, you now lose him, or tag him, when you could have had him for cheaper than the tag, or only get back at best a 3rd rd comp pick.
