Yes, the evidence is limited... especially from outside the building. But that evidence isn't indicating that this team can contend with him as a starter in his current form. It's also only a part of the point. Whether the team can contend for the playoffs or Super Bowl with Lance as he is is one question. Another would be why wouldn't you choose to play a better QB right now, who improves your chances right now? It's prioritizing a potential future at the risk of the present.
I've seen arguments you and others have made and it seems to be a common underlying thought that this team is good enough the quarterback means next to nothing. You believe the team would be a .500 team with Josh Johnson at quarterback. It's one of the few fundamental disagreements that happen in these conversations. Another would be how long people think this Super Bowl window is going to last and how easily extendable it could be.
