So then they went to plan C which is draft a QB but not only draft one but one with a similar skillset to a Watson or Josh Allen. They definetely didn't want another Jimmy G. They wanted a QB that can either do much more or had the potential to do much more.

That may very well be the case. We probably will not know the full story ever, or least until years down the road.

Either way, my personal opinion is that winning the Super Bowl should be the top priority (when you have the team to compete) and a key part of that is playing the best players you have. If Lance's development suffers as a result, there's nobody to blame but management. They've been great overall, but I think this was a pretty clear fumble.

The fumble was starting Jimmy in 2021 as he was never good enough to get us over the top.

He started 3-5 not hard for Trey to come in and do better than that. Jimmy was playing like doo doo

With three NFCCG and a Super Bowl appearance I'll sit and be patient until we nail this thing down!

Shanahan obviously didn't believe Lance could do better,he trotted Jimmy out with a bum shoulder and finger over playing Lance.

Lol okay Kittle said this about Lance

"I think [Lance] has one of the highest ceilings I've ever seen before," Kittle said on KNBR in April. "Some of the things you see him do on the football field, and you're like, 'Holy cow, I can't wait 'til he throws me passes.' "

And the reporters just watch and report the practices…Brock was a 7th rd pick. He wasn't playing well in camp man. He threw a lot of INTs and most in here thought he would be cut. You don't have to make s**t up. Doesn't mean Brock stinks. He played pretty damn well this year.

Kittle said that before he discovered Purdy lol FACT

That doesn't take away from the glowing praises for Lance from Kittle .. you know the guy you just said you'd take the word of over beat reporters. How do you reconcile Kittle's super high praises of Lance with your own sh***ing on Lance opinion after only three ****ing games and non-consecutive at that. Why aren't you taking Kittle's word for it w Lance?

Unbelievable ignorance in this place.

It's not a Jimmy or Trey argument for me. I don't think very highly of Jimmy. He's an average QB. That said, I don't think it's easy to be an average QB in the NFL and just because a kid has a strong arm, can run a bit, and is big, doesn't mean he's assured to become one. It's beside the point though.

We agree the goal was to get a better player than Jimmy Garoppolo. The team's public strategy was to draft Lance and sit him for a year and play.... Jimmy Garoppolo. That's pretty dumb in a year you think you can win the Super Bowl and need better QB play. And if you think he needs playtime to get better (as you clearly believe), and he sits for a year behind Jimmy Garoppolo, it pushes that development and all related growing pains and bumps into a second year of Super Bowl contention. Any way you slice this it's a management failure.

I posted a couple articles that could illuminate why you might pause before taking everything Kittle says publicly at face value (at least in this context). Besides that, it should be common sense that players generally are going to prop up their teammates publicly.

It might be the fact that Lynch & Shannahan "encouraged" players to support Lance prior to these comments that make some skeptical.

Yep. Just posted an article about that. And I posted an article with additional Kittle quotes from the exact same interview in which the quote came from, where he outright says he's going to prop up and support players publicly, lol.

Of course he is going to prob up his qbs publicly. I don't take what Kittle says seriously as a result.

But the other dude in here said he'd take Kittle's word over a beat reporter so he is going with what Kittle says and places weight on his words yet he dismisses praise for Lance from Kittle and accepts wholeheartedly praise for Purdy from Kittle. Cannot have it both ways.

I could not give two caps what Kittle says as he will be biased in his praise and you just cannot count on objectivity as nothing negative will come from him.

Agreed, but it's probably worth pointing out that he's not necessarily accepting one Kittle comment while dismissing another. The comments happened at completely different times and a lot of new developments took place between them. New information should mean new conclusions.

It's exactly what the Chiefs did. It seems the issue for you is the player not the strategy.

Seems from your perspective the real management failure happened when instead of getting a young qb to develop as the team rose they paid 130+ million for an average qb.

"Just something dramatic for TV."

"It's about TV."

Kittle is funny, engaging, but hyperbole is the order of the day.

You could argue the Chiefs made a bigger management failure. At least Jimmy was a throw away from winning the SB and went to a couple conference championships.

The Chiefs wasted a year on a QB that couldn't get them out of the divisional round and went one and done in the playoffs that season. And Mahomes was nowhere near as green as Lance.
