Then why not keep Jimmy? We won with him.

Both you and Pillbusta want your declarations to be true but neither actually have enough of a sample to support it.

I actually do not have a problem with keeping Jimmy but there are 2 hiccups or maybe 3.

Kyle seems to be out on Jimmy
Jimmy would be expensive and we would have to outbid other suitors
Jimmy would have to back up Trey and then perhaps Brock and I know he wants to play for starter's money

We have an ideal QB situation last season but we just ran outta bodies at the last possible moment

I maintain that Jimmy G was the best 2nd round pick we've made or traded for along with Deebo Samuel that I can remember in recent 49er history

You seem to be putting words in my mouth and twisting things for your own narrative. I am dealing in reality and not what I want to happen but what we are seeing happen. What is happening is not what I want but what Kyle and John want. I want to win and I want to do so without jeopardizing both the present and the future. Kyle ain't trading Trey and he is gonna give him the offseason and at least until the bye week to run the team just as we saw last year and will this year because Brock is injured and we did not win the Super Bowl so Ray Charles could see that Trey is getting the reps and the nod to start the season UNLESS he screws this up

You are talking about a sample to support what? If I were to sample last season I remember Trey under center week 1. Of course we knew nothing about BrockStar but now he is hurt so next man up or last man standing and that is Trey. Now we get to have a better look at what he is but when I watched us rip off 12 straight wins last season and how we had the number 1 defense and the best weapons a QB could ask for and then I imagine the impact Trey is gonna have on the run game with just his presence forcing teams to go 11 on 11 and the explosives that will yield I know we still have a great shot to win the division and have a chance to compete in the playoffs as we have been doing

Even if Trey does poorly or is injured, we have BrockStar and we know what he can do. Unlike the Trey bashers, I am a proponent of both our young QBs and I have no favorite until a chip is won but Ezekiel had something right. To displace Trey and sit him indefinitely with no QB competition this summer, Brock had to win out and then that would have me and everyone else telling Trey to hold that clipboard and do what Brock did on scout team vs the number one defense. That did not happen likely due to injury which we see will persist until at least late August, so we now have Trey on deck

This ain't a declaration that I want to come true. This is the reality we are witnessing in real time. I am waiting on you "fans" to see and observe this

I did not say that we will win, I said that there is no reason we can't! We have a chance with Trey just as we did with Brock when I look around the league and when I know the team we have and the coach we play under. There aren't many players that are looking at the Super Bowl and are saying we have no chance with Trey like some here are saying. Now Brock is more proven at this moment but he ain't an option this offseason so we have to deal with the here and now and I just have faith that Trey can have a great offseason and get us off to a good start in 2023. On a 49er fan site I expect to see optimism for the team that has been in 3 of 4 NFCCG and a Super Bowl under this coach as opposed to gloom and doom because our number 3 overall drafted QB is gonna have this offseason to make his case for his shot at the start of the season

Brock Purdy is a unicorn. His success after being thrown into the mix doesn't negate that some guys just need more time to figure out the most complicated position in pro sports. For f**k's sake you can root for more than one QB on the roster, you know? Or is this hard stance on Trey just an extension on your sour grapes that Mac f**king Jones was not our pick?

While yes Mac was my top choice. My stance truly was anyone but Trey. So not taking Mac f**cking Jones has nothing to do with it. Taking Trey f**cking Lance has everything to do with it.

Sounds like you made up your mind before he took an NFL snap and have just dug in your heals. Better to be right than good, amirite?

You know 20m is not that much money for a qb right? If trey is not ready to take the starter job, he should lay low. That's my 2c. Too many jerks here ready to tear him down so the mighty shanahan is not besmirched.
Do you really think we play 500 with trey? Im not sure about it. I like to see some technical progress in areas that we've already discussed.

Glad to hear you wouldn't mind jimmy being the glie to keep the wheels from falling off

OK so he is here in the Trey thread still yelling essentially anyone but Trey. OK. This makes a lotta sense. Let us not give him a crack at doing what we've paid him very expensively to do, but let us stand on "anyone but Trey." Got it

Expect to lose a lot of games and have a high draft pick if Trey is the starter for the first half of the season.

I think there's maybe a 30% chance brock is "ready to go" week1 whatever that means. By week 6 maybe there's a 60 70 chance brock is "playing regularly." It could all work out. But we should plan for contingencies also.

Who do you think gives us the best chance to play winning football while Brock rehabs? Hmm. We have to install a whole different offense for Trey. And the last few times he ran it the numbers weren't so great. I think he'll be better. Not sure it'll be good enough to play 500 football though.

Any other options?

The best chance is Brock_STAR is ready by week 1 to play. You don't worry about training camp and preseason. Because you know he can play. If not you need a veteran on the roster to carry a few games until he's healthy. Trey isn't it.

After I saw us play the way we played this year I truly believe we can play winning football with all three guys but make that both guys now as Kyle has closed the door on Jimmy G. I am telling you that when you are playing 11 on 11 football the game is easy. Did you not see Tyler Huntley nearly beat CIN in the playoffs with a lesser team with Greg Roman dialing up the offense? Trey won't play in that manner under Shanahan but a defense having to defend 11 guys opens up the rushing attack so the RBs FB Deebo and TEs will LOVE playing with Trey if not the receivers at first because the threat of Trey improves the run game allows Kittle do use all of his attributes regularly as far as blocking and the play action game and Deebo and Juice then gets more involved because we will be more effective at ground and pound running all over teams. We will be able to set up play actions and bootlegs and screens and read option and then the WRs down field will be in one on one and can feast

The key is Trey getting his reps and staying healthy. We can have 300lb DL rolling up on his ankles after securing the tackle anymore and Trey has to know to get down when he is wrapped up

The wheels are not falling off because we have Kyle. We have Trey we have Brock and we will draft a guy I am sure of it. A young cheap QB room so we can extend our stars and keep this thing moving!

Yes you keep Jimmy if he wants to come back and you get a reasonable salary. He can carry a few games early season until Brock is ready to go in and take over. He's much more likely to win than Trey.

Coach? Oh yea. ABT "anyone but Trey"!

Talk to Kyle about that one brother. He has got something he wants to say to you

Trey throws incomplete and loses games. He will get popped by week 2 on a fullback dive up the middle anyway. We will be down to Josh Johnson or somebody.

Like Joe Montana and many others have said it may be the best option. You can't leave a Super Bowl caliber team completely barren at QB for half a season. Just such a bad strategy. Maybe Brock can be ready to go sooner.
