They don't test for max squat lifts. Maybe you mean bench press reps? Or are you just arguing with yourself here?

Squats.. if you are comparing them athletically and you don't account for Hurts' power, instead you account for stuff like his hand size.. you are doing it wrong, imo
Has been shown most of that stuff they think is a success criteria is not.

https://www.bruinsportsanalytics.com/post/qb_combine

Basically only weak correlation between shuttle time and weight.

I would argue 10 yard sprint probably is better than 40 as well as reaction time and processing time as we have seen with purdy, Wilson, Brees, and Brady. Not sure how you measure those though.

Most of that stuff has no correlation even though it's used to make draft decisions every year.

I guess if you plan on using your QB like a running back somebody would have to track down if stuff like 40 and weight has correlation to running back success. Then extrapolate it to your QB.

This is why Kyle made that trade. We had the best defense IMO in 2019 with the best DL and Pat Mahomes scores 21 points in the last five minutes of the game to take it away from us. Jimmy could do nothing after having played a fine season and it began to sink in that no matter the defense sometimes with the right QB there's just better offense. We knew we needed someone that could stay in step with Pat Mahomes because dude is a problem. We actually passed over him astonishingly ourselves when we KNEW we needed a QB in 2017 waiting on K Cousins which is laughable now

Obv the biggest mistake Shanahan ever made was not listening to Lynch on Patrick Mahomes.

All because of his love affair with Kirk effing Cousin. What a ****ing idiot.

Thatta way to throw your head coach under the bus!!!

No no no no no.

These scores test against EVERYONE. That's 1st and foremost.

You can't skip the main portion. That's what the percentiles are for. I gave Hurts the broad jump simply because he scored in the 96th percentile in it.

Step 2 would be to see how they rank vs each other as compared to their peers.

And as I told you before with regards to "max squats",...no one is doing broad scale testing for that ish when we want to compare athleticism.

Actually it could've been. When Mahomes took over for Alex Smith they were already a playoff team. You think he would've been the same with a rookie head coach on a 0-9 9ers team!!

ACTUALLY... the biggest mistake here was that everyone labeled Kyle as a great coach before he's done anything.. i

t's pretty similar to our own Baby Face Lance and how he will become an instant STAR because of Kyle and his offense... everyone forgot about how young the guy is, and only played one full year in college...

Everyone fell in love w/him because of the work out and how he launched that 63 yard pass rolling out to the left .. the worst part is that.. no one remembers..

few QBs who left school too soon and too early and was expected to be a savior overnight..

Kyle's resume tells you he's a top coach in the NFL. While he's missing the ultimate achievement (SB victory) he and the rest of the staff turned around a bottom roster into a Super Bowl team in 3 years. 3 NFC title games and a Super Bowl appearance in his first 7 years as a head coach is impressive, especially given where they started. And that's just focusing on his and the team's achievements. If you want to get into his actual skills as a coach, his system, and his ability to field a top staff, his argument only gets stronger.

That isn't to say he's been perfect. He hasn't. He has warts just like every other coach.

I mean hindsight is always 20/20, but there's truth to all of it. Mahommes was drafted into a great situation. In the end that's what happened and that's what we go by. Do I think Trey needs to be measured the same way? No. that's dumb and not fair to him. Do I think Trey needs to actually play more and then we can provide a more valid opinion, yes.

I have zero issues with someone saying I simply prefer they play Purdy over Lance because I believe he gives us the best chance to win. But to say Lance sucks its completely naïve at this point.
Mahomes and Reid were like a match made in heaven or a match made in hell for opposing teams. I don't know if either would be as good if they didn't have eachother. Reid for sure I know wouldn't be because we have seen him without Mahomes. And while he was still a very good HC he never did win the big one.

PFF is just making noise. I find a lot of what they say is wrong or only partly true. They come up with team rankings and QB rankings based on ?????? Apparently they have knowledge based on 4 starts that Trey is a bust. That's going out on a limb just as much as the Niners did when they drafted him.

My .02 worth... We will never know but by the time Mahomes took over Tyreek Hill had already matured into a new threat and other pieces had fallen in place. However, the key to it all was Andy Reid's ability to craft an offense that worked with Mahomes' skill set. Without all that other stuff, Mahomes would have been David Carr - bruised, battered, and hoping to avoid Andrew Luck Part Two.
