Now Trey on the other hand has dealt with nothing but negativity and scrutiny and has dealt with so much from the media, and the fans and yet he still has remain so calm and true to himself. He has yet to fly off the handle despite so much being thrown at him. I don't think any QB from that draft class would have been able to deal with the stuff Trey has had to deal with.

You don't think any of the other rookies from that class could deal with scrutiny from groups of fans and media? I promise you every one of them has dealt with it and continues to deal with it on some level... with some exception for Lawrence given his year two progress.

Again, that is only a portion of the argument.

Regardless, it does seem we disagree about the philosophical direction they were heading in. I don't think they drafted Lance because they wanted to use the QB run as a primary, or near primary, means of attacking a defense rather than an ancillary one.

I think there's lots of quotes from Shanahan (post 2020) that would support that point of view... and I also think it would have made more sense to draft Justin Fields if QB running/mobility was the driving factor. He was your preferred choice IIRC, and he was clearly the best prospect in that department.

Well we have already seen how Mac Jones acts when things aren't going well. And we have seen Fields a couple of times say dumb things in the media. Just recently he complained about playing in the cold and wishing the Bears would get a dome.

Pre draft I had serious reservations about this guy's character and I still don't like this guy at all for some sneaky reason. But it ain't my problem because I'm not a player that had to play with him and it ain't even a player on my team

Hell no, teammates and players around the league love Jimmy. Mac Jones doing dirt around the league like kicking people in the nuts, throwing hissy fits to coaches. If I'm Belichick I'd go and get Baker Mayfield.

I wouldn't call baker a high character guy either. Jimmy does have that going for him, which matters in the league.

No Baker Mayfield isn't a high character guy, but he isn't exactly acting like an a*****e like Mac Jones. Mayfield seems to be a little bit humbled.

You'd expect that to happen when you lose multiple gigs and start bouncing around the league, lol. Opportunities are thin.

I don't think Mayfield is hated in the locker room and around the league it's just that he isn't very good and players see it. Jones is below average and a dick head 2 different things

2020 is also when Josh Allen changed his mind about that. And no, Fields isn't a better fit for what Shanahan was going for. Watch what they do in Buffalo. Who looks more like Allen? It's Lance.
.
EDIT—And yes, early on he was my preferred choice of the two. I wasn't wanting Lance until I got to know a bit about who he is as a guy.

I mentioned post 2020 specifically because of Josh Allen, and his game against the Niners. That's the point most people believe his thinking around the position changed.

I also agree that Fields wasn't a better fit for what they were looking for, but he would be a better fit if Kyle was looking to do what you said he was (run an offense like the Eagles). If the priority was on qb running and mobility, he was the easy choice. I cited your [early] preference for him because I remember you mentioning it around a conversation we had last year when Jimmy G restructured.

Shanahan specifically said he wouldn't select a QB based on trends in the league, among a bunch of other things.

Well, I see the Eagles do those power QB sneaks. Maybe I need to watch more of them if my understanding of their scheme is incorrect.

What I was saying then about Fields is that among those QBs, he was the most physically gifted, and should he develop, he'd be the best among them. But that's all talking about physical ability, and the mental side of it is as much or more important (and I don't mean intelligence; I've discussed what I mean a thousand times).
Would Shanahan still go with Lance if Richardson was available?
