what other alarm bells do you need at this position?

And? Again name a teams QB3…or QB4 because that's where they were at in the NFCC. Please tell me the names of them….who the f**k even has 3 "startable" QBs on their roster?

Show me the "depth" for teams QB3 and beyond across the league?

you're acting like SF f**ked up not having Andy Dalton as QB4. Get real man. They had Jimmy as the freaking backup. We had Lance and Brock on top of it.

Forget QB3/4

realize BP is out maybe for the year
then realize TL is coming off a major injury and injured 2x in 2 years. The guy has barely played and he got hurt in like 50% of his games.

So yeah I am not sold on the health of BP or TL and I don't think KS and/or JL are either. They are both risky 2023 options.

If Trey and Brock can't play then tank the damn season. If the 49ers splurge on a QB3 and sign Dalton/Baker/Brissett/Wentz/Mariotta, what are these chumps going to do? Get bounced round 2 instead of round 1? What's the point?

You lost me on not sold when referring to KS/JL.

You go to the edge of the cliff on JG. though ......

Don't see any support for the idea that we have lost Purdy for the year. But here is a thought. If you were right that the team has lost all confidence in Purdy and Lance health-wise, no question but Lynch will sign a strong option. If you are wrong, then probably we will just pick up a qb with a midrange pick and maybe another option with a late pick or as an UDFA.

No I will not forget QB3/4 when you keep bring up the NFCC game.

Realize Lance is already running and doing full drops. Realize you have no idea what Brock's TL is before he's even had surgery.

so they're risky options…what you think Jameis Winston is gonna lead this team to a Super Bowl? you think old ass Matt Ryan who looked more than toast last yr is gonna? Like damn near every team in the NFL when your starter goes down for a long period of time, you're not winning anything meaningful. Having Baker Mayfield as your season long starter doesn't help anything.

your backup should be meant to be a good scout QB and be able to jump in to help win a game here or there. Not being your starter long-term.

I still believe his end game in all this is having Jimmy come back on a stupid low contract. He's one of the biggest pro Jimmy guys here and talks down his market in his thread.

The team would be prepping for more nuanced situations than this.

What if Brock misses the bulk of the season, or what if he's on the 6 month timeline and has setbacks in his recovery?

What if Brock misses the bulk of the season, Trey Lance looks awesome in camp, but suffers a pulled hamstring in week 4 and will miss a month?

What if Trey Lance struggles in camp, Brock is healthy to start the season and then suffers a high ankle sprain in week 5 that keeps him out 4 games?

For up to 8 million dollars, you can have a nice piece of insurance at the position. It should be understood that NFL teams traditionally do not have 3 starting quality QBs on their roster. That's obvious. The reason is primarily due to cost and availability. We have two guys we want to be starters, that cost next to nothing. But one is injured, and the other is a complete question mark who also has been injured. We have a Super Bowl quality roster and the biggest weakness in this window has been and continues to be the QB position.

Good post. JL mentioned we are looking to add in addition to BP and TL. We will see and can revisit based on who we add.

Imagine writing that statement a year ago and replace 'Trey and Brock' with 'Trey and Jimmy' see how much sense it makes..

So pay $8M for a guy that's gonna play 4 games and maybe win two? Maybe Brock gets that high ankle sprain because we invested that cash at QB3 vs the RT spot? You act like because our current QBs don't cost much that we have some surplus of cap space…when in realty we don't and have to pay our DPOY like a QB (and have holes elsewhere).

yes we have a Super Roster and no QB signing from FA is gonna fix the starting QB position. It's Lance/Brock or bust…unless Brady/Rogers walk through that door.

yeah, just draft another QB in 2024 anyway. Like Caleb Williams or some s**t. They can trade up again. QB should be drafted every year until we get it right. I'm tired of this s**t every year

So draft a QB in the 7th rd. Since that's what you're trying to compare.

Tank the freaking season and spend whatever to get Williams. People in here pretending Dalton/Winston and whomever else out there is gonna win a Super Bowl for this team is being ridiculous

Just pushing back on the logic that we can't win with QB3. We just did, spectacularly.

3QBs should be the norm until we get this position / injuries here figured out. I'm fine with a draft pick as long as it's a real guy, not a guy actively shooting us in the foot.

MIA for example had a similar ride, they like us had a 7th round pick rookie starting, only theirs looked and played like a 7th round rookie, couldn't get the snap off. I could see us winning a Super Bowl with Mariota we are that loaded just need someone to manage it over the line. I am fine with TL if he can play and stay healthy, he needs to demonstrate he can do both.
