Lol, no doubt. That's why I don't want to keep writing it. Hard to make these arguments without attempting to address every angle.

He's all over the place. There isn't a single team in the league that has 3 startable QBs on their roster.

The point he was making is no one in here thought if we lost Jimmy/Lance that QB3 aka Brock would have this team winning it all…so I said fine draft a QB in the 7th rd again.

Imagine writing that statement a year ago and replace 'Trey and Brock' with 'Trey and Jimmy' see how much sense it makes..

What? That makes zero sense.

Exactly.

I've answered this. I don't assume BP is returning. Hopefully he will be.. but when, who knows?

So the QB we add wouldn't even be QB3. Would be QB2 or maybe QB1.

You can pretty safely bet BP or TL at least 1 or both, probably won't be available for some stretch of the year. These guys have 9 career starts. Two major injuries. 1 rehabbing another undergoing surg. We need help here. We need a QB2 all summer. Moving off this topic.

I was replying to your comment that if TL and BP go down it's season over. I thought it maybe ironic that you would think season over cuz our top 2 QBs are down. I mean what did we just experience in 2022? Our top 2 QBs did go down. We crushed it with QB3. so your statement doesn't jive with the season we just watched.

I can understand the sentiment behind your statement. As I myself had a moment there where I questioned if we could compete with BP. The game can be surprising and unpredictable, which is one of the things I like about football.

Purdy was a surprise to everyone. He doesn't compare to any free agent QB this off-season. Which QB on the market can the 49ers get that would play like Purdy? You see what you get with those guys. I don't see the comp from last offseason drafting a gem in Purdy to signing a meh QB for this seasons's QB 2 or 3.
I'd rather take my chances with Brock Lance while possibly signing a vet depth OL/DB with that QB3 free agent money.

If they both get injured again, tough poop. Life sucks. Maybe next year.

Once again THL the voice of reason. If you want to use last year as a reason to get a viable QB3, clearly we should draft another QB not sign a FA.

John Lynch "Yeah, we may have to look in the quarterback market in addition to Brock and Trey, to insulate ourselves from whatever may happen."

i agree with that statement

plus it's not a matter of BP getting injured again even.. it's his 6 month timeline to fully back on a surg that hasn't even happened yet
the timeline puts him back in Sept when games are being played
Andy Dalton only signed a 1yr 3mil deal

2800 yards, 18 tds and 9 ints

Jacoby Brissett signed a yr 4.6 mil deal. That with knowing he likely was starting the majority of the season.

2600 yards, 12 tds and 6 ints

Those are similar numbers to Jimmy G but without Kyle and Jimmy's weapons.

That is not OL/DB type money. That is rotational DL money or Robbie Gould money.

The later it gets in the offseason, the cheaper the vet QB will be.

If they have faith in Trey I wouldn't be in a rush to sign a vet and I'd wait for the market to come down to get the right guy. Not only that but also to see what happens during the draft.

My plan would change depending on how Brock is progressing. If there is complications or it's feared to be worse than originally thought I'd pay for a QB2. That to me is the only way or reason they'd have to spend 8+ on a vet QB.

Outside of the Brock situation and faith in Lance (or lack thereof) I can't imagine them paying more than 3mil on a vet QB

Key words being "we may". That is different from saying "we will". We will just have to wait and see how Brock's surgery goes first is how I interpret it.

if you think one or both won't be available for some stretch then we can't count of either to be our long-term starters. Tossing *insert random FA QB* as the guy for some stretch doesn't do a damn thing imo. You STILL don't have that guy and you can't count on the guys we currently have…I'd rather tank for Williams or trade for an elite QB (if an option comes about) then dick around with a plethora of Joe Blows at QB.

You don't spent $6-8M to have a "QB2 in summer" that's incredibly dumb and a horrible waste of valuable cap space that they don't have.
