All yesterday the discussion was about signing a middling backup or a good backup, or what you just referred to as a "true backup". You started posting salaries of s**tty backups to make some pointless point about how backups can be cheap. Of course backups can be cheap, because those are the s**tty backups. I understand your point about how Jimmy was a restructure.
It's not how backups can be cheap its that they are cheap. They high end backs were signed to be starters they weren't signed to be backups. The list I posted were literally the highest paid backups that actually signed to be backups.
You can call them s**tty all you want. I wouldn't disagree with you but nonetheless that list were true backups that signed to be backups.
Not the Trubiskys who signed to start then was demoted to backup.
Not Darnold who was traded to start then demoted to backup.
Same with Jimmy G, Mariota, Mayfield, Ryan, Wentz etc...
Those guys are high end backups but not signed to be backups.
The Browns with Keenum and Brissett. Miami with Brissett and Teddy are only teams that really paid extra for "top end" backup over the past 2 seasons
My 2nd post was to show there wasn't any "inflation" from price ranges for backups in 21 to 22.
Me and you are on the same page as for what you'd spend and wouldn't spend. Also as far as short list of which QB you'd wsnt
It does amaze me how much those guys in the 25-45 fringe rank range get. Every since starters started getting 35+ a year backups have been creeping up near that 10 mill mark. Even third string guys in that 40-60 rank range are creeping up near the 3 mill mark.
I don't see paying for a veteran backup. Just bring in some late round picks, undrafted, or cut guy and let him be there.
Why waste 6-8mill on a guy that should not play and probably won't be good enough to win you a Superbowl. That's enough to get a 4-8 sack a year guy with double digit potential opposite bosa.
