it should be good for both of them and make 'em both better. I personally feel like the front office looks at this as Purdys team and Lance as a really good backup/eventual trade material.

obviously as we've all seen the past few seasons, who the hell knows how it'll play out, that's just my take.

Lance would have to play out of his mind to outplay Purdy, either way, I just want us to win it all. I'll root for whoever is QB1 but I hope it's Purdy. The team was amazing when he was healthy and he showed nothing but greatness. EVEN PURDYS INJURY WAS OVER THE TOP RIDICULOUS. Hahaha

I agree with you to an extent.

How good has Trey Lance been? I don't know, he hasn't been out there long enough to tell. I think this is Trey's team wether I like it or not three 1st round picks speaks volumes. I hope we play the best guy regardless but I understand QB politics and front office jobs being attached to the three picks we traded for Lance.

I keep asking myself has this happened before and I keep going back to RG3 & Kirk Cousins (not because of how they look).

I think if we had a more traditional FO setup, with an independent GM responsible for making picks, your idea that jobs would be at stake over Lance's success/failure would hold more water.

Putting that aside, it looks like the team found something at the position in Purdy. That development is effectively a life raft from a potential mistake in selecting Lance.

Does it feel like any significant individuals (like Lynch or Shanahan as the easiest examples) are on the hot seat right now? I'd say absolutely not. It feels more like this is the best and most unified football team (from FO to coaches to players) we've seen in the York era. Basically a golden age.

How did you come to this conclusion? I haven't heard anyone in the front office saying selecting Lance was a mistake.

The 49ers are a business, draft capital is worth a lot of $ to these clubs. Squandering 3 first is a termination for sure. Think about the picks we used to get CMC and then look around at the packed house with all the #23 jerseys, and the TV contracts generated by eyeballs glued to the screen to watch #23 play.

You cannot mishandle draft picks in the NFL. The 49ers are a first class organization, and only a low class or no class organization would allow something like that to happen without someone being held accountable.
as long as Lance stays healthy, he keeps the job. I truly believe he will win games with his arm this year. Purdy did amazing but in the end suffered a major injury that will likely sideline him for the beginning of the season and leave him susceptible to reinjure if we try to force him back in there too soon.

Love how haters judge Lance on the first game of season played away in a monsoon in which our defense gave up multiple 3rd and longs with missed sacks, stupid penalties, and completely blown coverages (so bad that one of the worst QBs in the league was able to take advantage of, though he is a solid RB).

Let's ignore the one game where he played really well against a surging Texans team last year in a must win game. A team just beating the great Justin Herbert...

This is exactly how it will play out. If he is winning he sticks. One guy said he does not care who we are starting as long as we are winning but he hopes it is Brock. Well if Brock starts at any point this season it is because we were losing with Trey. Or because we lost Trey to injury. I don't want any losses of games or players so I am hoping the guy that starts the season ends it with a postseason win. Since it will be Trey starting week 1 barring injury I am hoping he ends the season with a postseason win
This org gave Alex Smith 6 years to flounder. I'd be surprised if they didn't give Trey the same amount of time.

Also, I am not anointing Purdy as the savior yet. I made that same mistake with Jimmy. Never again. Until you win a Superbowl, nothing matters. Every year is a new year and reset. Hes gotta show that his arm strength is still good after the rehab.
I wish some of our fans were first class

Yet, Trey Lance who hasn't shown s**t gets 6 years.

He didn't say Purdy wouldn't get the same too

On not the Monsoon BS again? That excuse has long been debunked. Better look for a new one in the Misfiring QB Excuse and Troubleshooting Book.

Yep that is the end and the last 5 minutes or so was like that. He had already lost the game by then being out played by Fields.

I'd agree but those three first round picks are all essentially past - after this draft. Everything we forked up for him has essentially passed and we don't know anything more about him than the day we drafted him. Personally, and I don't think the team would ever say this publicly, I think they've been underwhelmed by him. I know every fan has besides the ones who hang onto "potential". All I care about are results. Truthfully, the team is better off dumping him as an experiment and trying to make it work with Purdys contract. I'm not saying get rid of him, but stop trying to force him as the starter.

I think he's lost the whole "have to give him a chance cause of draft picks". This league is about what have you done for me lately and whether it's lances fault or not - he's been outplayed by everyone else that's started for this team during his tenure and has never won the starting job; it's only been given to him. Couple that with the fact everything we gave up for him has nearly passed, he would have to beat out Purdy for the job at this point and I think it's highly unlikely that Happens.

i don't think Lance is a bad QB but I don't ever see him being a star like he was drafted to be. He might be better off leaving anyways cause fans will never want him unless he becomes a bonafide top 5 QB annually, because of what we traded for him.

He just said, until he wins a Super Bowl nothing matters and that's pretty much in reference to Purdy. So Purdy going 8-1 last season means nothing to him?? Brock Purdy is a much better QB than the mistake he says he made with Jimmy G. Brock Purdy has not only shown that he takes chances downfield, makes plays outta the pocket but most of all has shown he can run Shanahan's offense consistently.

To be fair. The defense started to crumble later in the game after the offense made them be in the field all game and they got frustrated. That still isn't acceptable but the fact he was shut down by the worst team in the league? Our roster is exponentially better than theirs at every position and we still lost. Idc if it was a blizzard, we should of won that game in any weather condition… six different ways to Sunday.

You may be right that he will be the starter if he is healthy, but I'd be surprised. If he is, I hope it's cause he is ballin.
