It's nonsense. The lance did nothing but stink is like a old wives tale…people have blown s**t so far out of proportion that we're at the point of sayin he should have slid or look at him not junk out a LBer with multiple defenders around him…after he already got 10+ yards on a 4th and 10 play. f**king ridiculous.

Which is a pointless thing to point out…the LBer doesn't have to move regardless of him junking anyone. There was multiple defenders there.

We are talking about his run ability, which was one of the major factors in him being selected, and something he 'brings to the table', so this is not pointless at all.

this is him running in open space vs a front seven defender. Go back to the ARZ game where he got beat to the spot relentlessly while being used as a battering ram. The play was an example of him being an effective runner, I see it as the opposite. He doesn't beat anyone on that play or make a single guy miss in space.

His running ability got a 4th and 10 conversion. You're going out of you way to diminish it by saying he didn't junk a LBer who had multiple defenders around him.

Yeah I will say if the D is not leaving anyone responsible for Trey he can run on air and get yards. I'm not diminishing. I think anyone showing that play and saying look he's a run threat, is blowing smoke. If that's his run threat, he better work on his passes.
It seems funny that some of the people that were Jimmy fans and accused anyone that criticized him of being a hater, are already calling Lance a bust after 4 starts. At least most of Jimmy's detractors waited a couple seasons before they started wanting someone else.

They're mad cause their golden boy was replaced and his time was done as the the franchise qb.

hell yeah
One aspect of the QB position discussion I think worth talking about is this idea that Trey playing can increase his trade value. I don't think people are thinking this one through.

To me, there's really no realistic way Trey improves his trade value and we actually trade him.

Let's say Brock is going to miss up to a handful of games and Trey is the starter. If Brock replaces him when he's ready to go, Trey's trade value is not increasing. Nobody is going to make an offer to us, beyond whatever his market would be right now, if he plays a couple games and we replace him.

On the other hand, if he plays well enough to not be replaced by Brock, he's the de facto QB1 and plan A for the future again. We would not be trading him in that scenario.

Trey's play could affect a decision to trade Purdy, but not really a decision to trade Trey.

Depends on how the coaches view Brock.

Or you could have a situation where Trey plays well for a long stretch then gets a sprained ankle or something and then suddenly Brock is in lighting it up again. If Trey has good tape a sprained ankle won't stop a team from offering something of value.

It's a multi year discussion. We own the rights to TL for 2023 (yr 3) 2024 (yr 4) and 2025 (yr 5 option). So if BP doesn't play in 2023, TL could. If TL plays well he will drive his own stock way up, both for a 2nd contract point of view and trade value point of view. Or maybe BP comes back at midseason, plays as TL gets a knock, but TL played well enough to drive up his value. There's a million different scenarios that could play out.

I did think of the injury angle you're presenting here, but unless it's a serious injury I don't think you're prioritizing Brock again if Trey has played well enough to keep the job. Trey would start again as soon as he's healthy. If it is a serious injury, I don't think Trey's value goes up because he's now a QB who has suffered two major injuries in his two years starting.

This scenario again, seems to only affect a trade of Brock.

I guess there's some wiggle room if Brock isn't healthy enough to play for this coming season, but that seems entirely unrealistic given his timetable.

It's more realistic that he could have a minor setback in his recovery and miss a few games, which is built into my post already.

I see your point but I disagree.

If Trey had a 5 game run like Purdy had where he's lighting it up and winning, a team will trade for him 100%.

takes guts to go against the herd mentality or to voice an unpopular opinion

there are two sides to every situation

I see the reason for optimism and feel he can do it here with his arm and another offseason of putting in work, I understand the frustration also it's been a bumpy ride on the TL express so far.
