Lol I remember when Jimmy was being hated on I predicted it would be 2 years until this "fan"base turns on Trey. In reality it was about 2 games. Why must this fanbase always have to use our QBs as punching bags? I don't get it... It'll soon be Brock too.

the fact that some are trying so hard to prop up Sam and give him excuse after excuse for 5 yrs of f**king awful QB play WHILE saying Lance stinks after 100 random passing attempts through 2 yrs of football is f**king insane and not even close to being objective.
Responded before your edit. If Darnold is that bad, Lance can beat him out for the higher spot on the depth chart and we'll see what happens from there. It's flat out denial at this point to not recognize there's a competition however.

Thats the funny part to me. When it was going to be a comp between BP & TL it was we were "scared" to give Trey a chance. "Competition is good for everybody." "If Brock is so much better he should win it easy. let them battle it out"
So I'm curious why people are "scared" to let SD compete. If Trey is so much better then he should win it easy. Let them battle it out

meanwhile from NFLs power ranks: they openly reference a QB battle between Sam and TL in offseason..
comp never hurt anyone I think it will help both guys and the team
That 'splitting' argument was pure deflection. A complete unwillingness to recognize the situation for what it is.
It wasn't NY but at least two other posters offered bets there would he no competition between a FA signing and Lance for the higher spot on the depth chart. Those bets would have been lost within a matter of a couple weeks, lol. I legitimately would have jumped but I knew there would be a problem with the parameters of the bet.

I guess it all depends on how you would define 'turning on Trey'.
I wouldn't define it as prioritizing the best interests of the team in the immediate future over his development. I wouldn't define it as having him earn his seat at the table, and if he doesn't, or the team feels he isn't capable, shopping him for assets that may be able to help the team in other areas.

It's inaccurate to say that the fans have turned on Trey, because many of the ones that don't like him didn't like him when he was drafted.

Disagree. This is historically what our fanbase does. They historically have needed someone to pick on. If I'm wrong name me one QB in the last 20 years thus fanbase hasn't turned on.

Certainly change, but I think the niners are much better equipped to win a title, right now, with Purdy as the QB
I think we're beyond this point though.
Purdy is currently injured... and people are debating whether or not to trade Trey or if he'll even be QB2.
In fairness WB, you told me there is zero chance of any QB comp between any FA we sign and TL.. now it's openly being discussed by tons of people who cover NFL for a living, like Rapsheet, David Carr with NFL Network, Jack Hammer, etc.
So yes TL being behind Sam on the depth chart is a possibility, in fact, that is Carr and Rapoport's position. Would you tweet at them and call them TL haters? Or would you say they are neutral parties just looking at it objectively, giving their football opinion?
In fairness faithful, I repeatedly said that there's not going to be an open competition, as in, splitting first team reps. Because I was responding to this post you made:
"ask yourself if Trey Lance in offseason #3 can't beat out Sam Freakin Darnold what business does he have getting the keys to our franchise?"
From the way you describe this competition, you make it seem like Trey and Sam will have an equal shot to be the starter, and that they will be equally judged on their offseason performance. But I tried to be clear to you that IMO camp doesn't work that way. I believe Kyle will give Trey every opportunity to be the starter (assuming Purdy is not healthy), mainly because giving Trey less reps with the first team offense makes Kyle look even more foolish, it hurts his chance to become the franchise QB we drafted him to be, and it hurts his trade value immensely. You just don't sign a FA backup and start him over a QB we traded 3 first rounders for, unless he's far far FAR and away the better player. But I removed that last part from my reasoning as I'm predicting it won't happen.
I have no issue with being wrong, and have admitted when I'm wrong plenty, but I would just be completely stunned if we didn't still try to develop a top 3 overall pick.
Kyle in the media can say they're competing all he wants, but it's not the same unless they're literally taking opportunities/reps away from Lance in camp and inserting Sam.
Then you said I was moaning about a little competition for Trey, or that I should call people Trey haters but you're missing the point. I'm not saying there's no chance Sam Darnold could be the better option to start the season, I'm saying he won't have a chance to.

The problem with your thinking here in my opinion is you're not recognizing that Lance is no longer their plan for the future. There is no need for, or desire to, develop him. Brock Purdy may not be ready to go in the early part of the season, but you are still planning around his return. In the meantime, you play the best player right now.
And I really don't think this hurts his trade value because they wouldn't be selling him as a non developmental player to other teams. They would pitch the idea that they believe he can be a good quarterback but they can't afford to develop him with the team ready to win now and with another option (Purdy) who they are committed to. Listen to the comments from Lynch and Shanahan with this context in mind. Try to understand that they are very clearly presenting this argument publicly.

Sam went 4 for 6 in games last year, two thirds, right up there with the best of them, and while he has a history of throwing too many pics, he went 7 and 3 TD's to Ints. Like Lance, he was a 3rd overall pick, and Kyle said he wanted him coming out. Sounds like we offered our 12th overall for him, before trading up for Lance. He's always played on weak teams with suspect coaching. Kyle has never had a chance to settle him down. The fact he's even here may or may not be a vote of low confidence in Trey. He definately has far more game experience than Trey.
They are going to compete, and the player that looks the Best will get the most 1st team reps, not the given of who has the least experience.
I have no clue who wins, and I hope we play the best man, regardless of other considerations.

The bar for first team reps will be a moving sliding bar. If one looks better the bar will slide to them.
One knows the system longer/better the other has more playing experience. Which will shine thru? Is any bodies guess. Who will wilt
Time to see who will be iron and who will be aluminum.

Hope they both look good. If you want to trade Trey, you are going to need to show that he is worth something. Frankly, for this year, as a collective you want them all to look good so that during the season, you don't have to worry and just be next man up.
They are as a collective cheap so keep them all.

"Can you win the SB with Purdy?"
Funny question.
How about "Can you beat the worst team in football with Trey?"

Being the first game of the season, I thought there was going to be a pot hole with the Bears or that they would be overlooked. Especially when you look at the fact that there were a lot injuries and people playing lame that first several games. Not to mention that Christian came later and provided a much needed spark.
You could also asks how would Purdy look in that game-he got to watch for a bit and had nothing to lose. Trey was the opposite-but that is part of the game.
Everybody likes Purdy, lets hope that the elbow does not present to be a future problem or that he is not a one hit wonder.
