What makes Grant an expert? His opinion is really no different than any fan. He never played football, he never coached football.

Just because it's from Cohn doesn't mean it's completely wrong. Besides, he didn't get that from himself. He got it from a QB coach he spoke to, IIRC. Various sources indicating you don't want to lock out the front leg early.

"That's something that Coach Werner and Taylor kind of came up with," Bentley said. "It's really helped me trying to take bits and pieces from every quarterback's game and try to implement it in mine. I'm trying to mimic how they do things, their mechanics, their fundamentals, just really trying to get better in that way." New Orleans Saints quarterback Brees is regarded as one of the most accurate passers in NFL history, which is why Bentley has paid particular attention to the mechanics of his throws. "It's just how upright he is when he throws. He finishes throws very erect, very powerful," Bentley said. "I think that's one thing I can look at, whether it's not locking out my front knee and getting kind of bent over at times. Brees really finishes every throw the same. That's definitely something I can put in my game as well." Bentley is second in school history in career completion percentage (63.4 percent) but threw 12 interceptions last season. Brees has the highest completion percentage in NFL history at 66.9 percent. "If you look at Drew Brees and his mechanics and how crisp they are, being an undersized guy, he's really had to have great mechanics to be as successful as he is," Bentley said. "If you look at Aaron Rodgers, being able to make any throw, off platform, off balance. If you look at Brady, just a guy that really is focused on the craft every single day."

"However, a recent study from the University of Manitoba identified one technique characteristic that separates elite QBs from average ones. Researchers found that elite quarterbacks keep their back leg bent during the pass, allowing them drive through the hip to propel the ball. This increases Ground Reaction Force (GRF)—the amount of force going into the ground. The higher the GRF, the more power can be transferred to the ball. Average quarterbacks primarily drive through their knee, limiting the amount of power generated from their rear leg.
Keeping the back leg bent has another benefit. It allows the front knee to remain bent, which enables you to fully transfer your weight over the front and keep your head still—essential for keeping the target steady for an accurate pass.
[...]
Most coaches preach footwork, especially in the passing pocket. However, the real reason for their emphasis seems to be ensuring that both knees remain bent to maximize ball velocity, accuracy and safety."
This is pretty much how you throw. You transfer weight from back to front. A locked front leg makes that harder.
EDIT-apparently I don't know how to spell facetious.

I feel a little bad for him. Lol I mean.. no way this is the first times heard it, but still sucks to be a young man and your loved ones hearing this stuff on national media.
as long as he balls, this all becomes a non factor.

I haven't looked into too much but I saw another poster on here say he is a great natural thrower. UCLA has some bright seasons ahead of this kid is the real deal! Good for them

I was at the opener when Lance snapped his ankle and the minute that cart came out, you could feel this poor guy's career was over before it started.
When they had the first run with Lance, I said to my wife and friend "If they call these plays, they're gonna kill him". Sure enough, Shanny did.
Now I don't say this as an "I told you so" or like I was seeing something others weren't...in fact, the opposite. It was abundantly clear that if Shanahan was going to give dangerous RPO's with the option going up the gut that this kid was gonna get destroyed. And that's what happened.
The niners being the niners, find a diamond in the rough in Purdy, and not only do they lose the NFCCG before it begins, but they also have his next season and beyond in jeopardy based on another horrible, freak injury.
All of this is to say...sadly, that week 2 of last season is when Lance died on the vine. And maybe it was all screwed from the get go...a panic reach pick for a completely inexperienced, basically high-school level QB...on a roster that is ready for a super bowl.
What coulda gone wrong?
He needed last year to develop but, the team wasn't in a development phase. He still needs this year to develop...and the team is in super bowl mode again. And now he's coming off of a major ankle injury, with the pressure of being in year 3 with no experience, and having a 7th round QB surpass him in every facet.
Sure, he is making great money but this is a worst-case scenario and he really stands no chance of success except maybe on another team...but it makes zero sense value-wise for SF to trade him because he's worth nothing. You have to feel for him.

It's probably pointless if you're going to rely on statistics, especially the basic ones like passer rating, completion percentage, and even tds and ints.
I don't think Brock Purdy was better than Andrew Luck his rookie year, but it would be impossible to argue otherwise using those kinds of stats.
There's conversation about Jimmy G having the best year of his career last year but to your point was he actually playing better or was his job just easier? To me he was the same Jimmy G we've seen since 2019.
I'd argue Jimmy looked better in 2022 than 2019. He was playing loose with a "don't give a f**k" mentality. Which, sadly, speaks volumes about Shanahan's coaching when the best a guy looks is when he's thrown into action in 2017 with no playbook or expectations and in 2022 when he was basically out the door and playing for himself and a new deal.

Nice to see Lance working hard in the offseason. I hope he makes it a difficult decision for the QB1 spot.

Does it feel like the time when Kap went to the Super Bowl two NFCCG kicked Aaron Rodgers ass multiple times won at Lambeau and forced coaches to go back to college to study how to stop the read option and the NFL to change the rules on QB engagement and a "QB posture" on handoffs?
Is that what this looks like or are these guys two different sets of circumstances
