I dont think anyone on here expects darnold to be a superstar here. Lol many just think he will/would perform better than Lance.

which is a real possibility. It's up to Lance to perform this off season to show he can be better than darnold and vice versa. which in Lance's few starts, he hasn't done anything that darnold can't.

it'll be fun to follow it. Personally, if either are starting and Purdy isn't - we don't have much of a chance to compete for the Super Bowl. They can probably win a few regular season games but we are screwed if either are the starter in the playoffs. Let's just hope Purdy heals up properly.

In his three stsrts, he's 55% and in 2/3 of his starts that he completed - he was worse than that. He threw 0 touchdowns in 2/3 starts and has averaged 14Ppg as a starter. He couldn't put up 11 points in 2/3 games.

don't understand how you can bash darnold and somehow have this impression Lance is much better in his small amount of starts? Lance couldn't lead the offense to a touchdown in 10.5/12 of his quarters of play as a starter. Lol stop it.

only thing you can say is we don't know the final product of Lance and you hope he does better.

This latest news on Purdy's recovery puts the 49ers in a situation where head coach Kyle Shanahan might be forced to choose between a guy considered a bust after five less-than-stellar years in the NFL and a young QB who many feel is on the fast road to bust-ville based on health and has shown little improvement on the field in his first two years. Either way, it's not the best position for the Niners coaching staff.

Once again, they'll have a team that's ready to win as they have for the past few years, and the same problem continues to occur. They can't seem to nail down the QB spot and keep a guy on the field an entire season. Everyone seems to have an opinion on Jimmy G, but had he been able to stay healthy while leading the Niners' offense, he'd probably still be in San Francisco. He might not have the best arm, but they did win when he was on the field.

Indeed, the 49ers could dip into the free agent market again and grab one more body to compete against Darnold and Lance during training camp. But at this point, all the coveted free-agent QBs have been taken off the board. Unless they want to contact a player like Cam Newton, and he isn't even a sure thing at this point in his career. SF could draft another QB, but hoping for lightning to strike back-to-back years is insane and not likely to happen.

Agreed with all of this. Would barely be a topic if Purdy was healthy. But since he's not and Trey or Darnold are likely starting, it's a legit discussion.

"Even if the Niners are receptive to potential trade offers for Lance after the season, they won't come close to recouping that haul. Based on my conversations with several teams' general managers (and other high- ranking front-office executives), Lance would be unlikely to net much more than a third- round selection, though it's possible there's a team out there motivated to give more."
