Why would they trade out their QB1? Who would they start at QB? Trey? Mullens? That is not in their own self interest. They want a prospect to pair with Cousins, so that they can move on from Cousins in 2024. They may not be able to land a top guy in round 1, they may be gone by that time. They want Cousins and TL. Not Cousins for TL, would be my guess. I don't think he's available.

Why haven't they given him an extension? If anyone watched those Viking games they would realize that was not a 13 win team. Whatever with them.

also people see it forget how much kyle said they need to have a QB on a rookie contract. Kirk will be making $40M+ per yr wherever he plays

In exchange for Cousins according to Florio.

Florio (whose favourite team is the Vikings) is always connecting Cousins back to the 49ers since Shanahan became 49ers head coach. It never stops. Every single offseason.

It's true, though. Kyle loves, Cousins, but doesn't make sense with Dirty being the franchise starter.

Brock was great, but his future is still unknown. Kyle knows what Kirk is. He loves the guy and there's no way he doesn't think he'd lock a SB in with Kirk

Ok, you make a good point. I'd rather go with Cousins, than Darnold, if Trey isn't ready early or this year.

I know their record looked good but they aren't really close tbh. I think they know this and are ready to start rebuilding rather than dragging current situatio out for no reason. I know you guys hate it but a QB room with KC and Brock would be awesome. THAT is a good QB room. Kyle will play whoever gives us the best chance to win

I don't think they see Rodgers leave the div and say welp it's time to rebuild after 13 wins.. just doesn't make sense to me.

This is a great point. But the knee cappers and potentially Fields may change their mind after this year.

They clearly don't want to give him an extension.. my post says 'move on from Cousins in 2024'.. that is what they are doing.

Minnesota is reading the room of the NFL and they see Russ breaking down, Stafford breaking down, at similar ages, Ryan already done broke down. They aren't gonna be on the hook long term with Kirk. They want a young guy I bet they draft one.

That Viking team was a disaster on Defense though. Just saying that's not really Kirks problem. His problem is when he plays on national TV.

Drafting one makes more sense, then trading for one

Oh I agree that defense stinks. Hence why I said that's not a real 13 win team.

Why not trade for Trey, he's probably better than any of the Qbs coming out, with the exception of Young or Stroad.

Sure, depending what guy you get and what the cost of acquisition is. You have good handle on the draft, do you feel Hooker will be on the board at their spot? He makes sense, as he needs to sit anyway, let Kirk play 2023. I think the MIN fear is they don't get one of those top 5 QBs. They all may go pretty quick, although I am not sure what will happen there.

They were easily the worst 13 win team in history. They were an anomaly that really should have won more like 8 games which is why they are blowing up their roster.

Lions are next up there. Vikings probably have the worst defense in the NFL. Time for them to start over

All this is saying is teams are calling SF. SF isn't the ones doing the calling. We already knew that

Again with this Cousins nonsense. If really Kyle wants him, I think there´s a problem in the way this great coach sees the position.
Imagine having Cousins in the POs against that Dan Quinn D-Line with Parsons as a freelancer and the Eagles front four + Reddick.
Cousins is a really good QB but don´t expect him to save your ass if the play is broken.

And like other said, he´s FA at the end of the season. He would be re-signed. Of course he would!
What do you do with Purdy? How do you re-sign Bosa + Aiyuk?
He´s not coming.
Besides if you´re the Vikings, maybe you should take a look at your s**tty defense first.

Safe pick?

Yeah, I think it was by far the riskiest pick.

Every pick, is risky.

Correct, but because Trey played so little games and in the FCS, he was extremely unknown. Making him by far the riskiest. You knew what you were getting with mac and fields. Literally no clue what Lance was/would be, and still don't. Or at least had an idea of the other two.

Lance is probably the most unknown and raw qb ever taken that high in a draft.

I can live with riskiest, I can go with that, considering lack of games played in college, because of Covid and being an FCS school, where competition, might not have been the best.

I personally don't mind the team taking these kind of swings. I really don't. I just personally felt like it was the wrong pick, that's all. I prefer we take big swings in an effort to nab a FQB and if Kyle thought that was Lance, I can live with that.

some think I hate this guy no matter what, and it's not true. I'd be super happy if he worked out how Kyle thought he would. My personal evaluation is that he isn't it. If he played more, I may be convinced otherwise. A huge piece to this for me is that Kyle isn't eager to get him on the field, that says a lot to me. If Kyle isn't sold on him, no one should be.
