That may be true but it's very possible that if the turd were to never play another down of football he may have already had a better career than Lance ever will time will tell.

He had a top 5 defense his rookie season. That was the reason they made the playoffs. He also had a good running game to work with.

He doesn't have a weak arm, he has a good arm, that's all we need for this system. Remember, Joe didn't have a strong arm either. Everyone, passed on Purdy. because he was just ordinary in college. But, he came alive, as a pro and made a name for himself.

He had a top 5 defense. Only reason he made the playoffs. Dude won a game throwing 3 passes because of said defense.

He'd be Brocks backup here too competing with Darnold because Darnold has more upside.

The 49ers have completely mismanaged his development because they wanted it both ways. They wanted to win with a veteran team and develop this phenom, but you couldn't do both simultaneously so they have wasted a ton of time not getting him any snaps.

He needs to develop as a passer, but as usual Shanahan didn't have the balls to let him go through the growing pains of passing the ball a lot, and kept giving him designed runs, which totally ruined their timeline of development. Getting a ton of snaps in year 2 was vital if you were going to sit him out to learn in year 1.

Now they discovered Purdy, and are caught trying to go multiple directions at once. Purdy getting hurt is the perfect opportunity to get Lance reps and see if he can answer what Purdy did. If they are actually shopping Lance now they are stupid.

The Lynch/Shanahan regime has constantly waffled on this QB position. Every offseason its "inquiring" about Brady, or Rodgers, or Cousins. I get that injuries keep happening, but this entire transition from Garoppolo to Lance has been a sh*tshow.

the debate shouldn't be "can Lance be a functional solid qb". I think it should be "does the team believe Lance can become a top 5 Qb in the nfl".

i vote no and seems like the team decision makers have too. No one is saying he won't improve, but improve to a superstar? Based on what? His amazing physical traits that couldn't function in rain against the worst team in the nfl? Hell yeah! Gimme some more of that!

But even if you analysis is correct, why move on at this point? If Purdy is the starter what is the harm in keeping Lance as the backup? I mean its not unheard of keeping a QB on the bench for a few years.
