Mac at his best and highest ceiling was never going to be worth that draft capital they gave up. I bet Fields is now glad he was never drafted by the Niners.

Correct.

Outside of that I wouldn't say this a failure of development by Kyle and CO. It's a failure of an evaluation.

Again, there were reports that they felt he was more pro ready than Mac Jones. They may have said the plan was to sit him, but they also openly stated there was a competition and they'd play the best player at the position.

I don't think it's unreasonable to believe they drafted a player that they thought had room to grow into an elite QB but was also good enough to supplant an average and oft injured starter right from the start. That's a move that actually makes sense at the top of the draft. He didn't necessarily have to be the better player, but he had to be close and playable to a level that didn't cost them wins. If the plan was to eventually trade Jimmy G (whether it be right away or a year down the line as they did) you'd want to talk up that player in public... as they consistently did.

Justin Herbert is an absolutely elite QB and his team struggles to make the playoffs. Josh Allen is right at Mahomes level and they have yet to break through and they have a very talented team around him. Winning in this league is about more than just having a great QB. Having a great QB is just the easiest ticket to having a consistently great offense.

And again the problem is how does he pan out if doesn't play? We have another option that had our offense rolling the best it has in two plus decades and we didn't lose a game in which he started. There is no reason to go backwards on a gamble where the realistic upside is that maybe years down the road you're back at the level we already were at (having an elite offense).

Should have just rode with Jimmy, through his contract. Better protection should have been the priority.

Agree. but if someone offers us a nice package, now, I'd not wait for next year.

We needed alot of breaks to just beat the Cowboys. We scored 19 points. We got a couple of favorable calls to score our lone TD. Diggs missed a gimme INT. Pollard got hurt. And Dak became Dak. And I am not convinced we beat the Eagles if Purdy didn't get hurt.

Well that remains to be seen. If he is elite for another team which I think he will be, Then it does fall on Kyle and his inability to develop QB's. And if that does happen and Niners don't have a SB to show for it, Both John and Kyle should be fired. And it wouldn't be a hindsight 50/50 thing because Trey was never really given an opportunity. He started 4 games. Jets won't even trade Z Wilson and he has a bigger sample size of being horrible and is a low character guy on top of that.

Idk why some people think it's an embarrassment or shame that some don't think he's the answer? That's so weird to me.

are we not allowed to have individual perspectives or opinions? Or should we just blindly follow and support what the team does? Sounds like communism. Lol

Every team that wins a SB has some breaks go their way. Remember tuck rule? You might not think Purdy could beat the eagles, but listen to the players because they do, which is why I knew there would be no tolerance for helping Trey along anymore

It's embarrassing that some couldn't realize what the teams doing with Lance all off season so far.

Lucks part of it, for sure. We came a lucky drop away from losing the comeback to the bengals. Joe montana, a few plays before the famous throw to Taylor, threw the ball right into the defenders chest and he dropped it. So is Joe montana a scrub who got lucky?

imagine the narrative on his career if that didn't happen.
