It's week 1 or 2022 Imo. No way Jimmy gets benched unless he's struggling or gets Injured.

So then week 3 or 4? Just hope the kid is ready to fully step in by then.

Jimmy only gets hurt in even years.
Jimmy doesn't have to get hurt to sit. All the slowest QB in the NFL has to do is TRY to compete with Trey. Athletically he has NO CHANCE. The hope of those clinging to his jock is that Trey won't learn the offense in time. Dummies need to look up the word 'SAVANT". Trey is far superior between the ears as well. He has already learned the entire playbook and Kyle is thrilled by his smarts as well as his obvious physical talents. The competition will end quickly when Trey busts loose with a 30 yard run or hits Kittle or Aiyuk with a bomb. JG has started his last game for the Niners.
There are some very misinformed people in here.

Who said anything about about a back up being worth 3 firsts and a 3rd.. now your just making things up.

If they were just trying to get someone better then they certainly could have, if they felt that way.

Since the season ended, the 49ers explored every option which ended up going all in for the draft. Which was the better route, Lance still has to prove on the field he is better.

I never said anything about a backup being worth 3 1sts..I have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm saying they were gonna improve from Jimmy in some sort of way this off season, they were gonna find his replacement. Some people in here are saying the ONLY reason they went and got Lance was because Jimmy couldn't stay healthy and I say b******t to that. They wanted an upgrade.

IMO the only reason they actually talked about a guy like Dalton is for him to be the bridge to Lance, much like Jimmy is just would have cost about $14M less then what we have now.

Hard to prove you're better on the field when people in here don't want him to go on the field

1. HE COULDN'T STAY HEALTHY

2. THEY WANTED AND UPGRADE IF THEY WERE MAKING A MOVE

TWO SEPARATE POINTS

Do you not understand this…

Does that make it less condescending adding the little emoji's like you do?? Just curious..

Man you've been really angry since last Nov lol

And you know this how, exactly. I swear some of the things that people say in these threads are just completely retarded. Unless Lance, with his one year of experience in Division II college football, proves to be one of the most prodigious, underestimated talents to ever come out of the college game there is almost no way Jimmy doesn't start week one, and continues to start as long as he is playing well. Lance is what, 21 years old, there is absolutely no reason to rush him into the starter's position when you already have a QB on the roster who has taken your team to the Super Bowl. The team, if it can stay healthy, has the roster to win now and Jimmy's experience gives them the best chance to do that. You don't give the keys to your Grand Prix race car to a kid that just got his driver's license. You give them to the experienced pro who has already been around the track a few times. If he falters somewhere along the way then you have had just that much more time to get your young driver ready. The team certainly expects Lance to be the future. But until he gets out on the field and demonstrates he is ready to grab the wheel all of this talk is just silly.
you can be as book smart as you want but its still a bad idea to hand over a talented roster to a rookie when you have a solid veteran. Jimmy is a great QB when hes healthy. rookies make mistakes more often and those mistakes can cause us losses in a superbowl or bust type season. its also essentially a contract year for Jimmy so he will ball out. Trey is the future, but Jimmy should start this year in my opinion. Trey knows our offense by all accounts but he has no idea how any NFL defense is gonna play him, he only knows the niners scheme and tendencies. the NFL game is a lot different from college football. hes not gonna be the fastest dude on the field all the time and im sure Bosa and Ford arent trying to mangle him in practice like Aaron Donald and the other Bosa will in the NFL.

Not unless Kyle dumbs down his playbook a la Jimmy in 2017.

If it took Matt Ryan two seasons to grasp the system after already being an established starter in the league, I'm very skeptical that a rookie who hasn't played a meaningful game in two years can hit the ground running in the same system.

It's not impossible, but if Trey does it, he's phenom material. I'm talking Doogie Howser stuff.

And please don't bring up RGIII. Shanny isn't going to install a whole new playbook when he's got a team ready to win now.

If Trey starts week 1 and stays healthy he's going to get a lot more than 15 TDs. This dude thinking we're just gonna run the ball 50 times a game?

Maybe...but even then thinking Trey averages less than 1 passing TD is a major stretch with Kyle calling the shots and the weapons we have.

Even Tua threw for 11 TDs last year and he only started(but didn't play all of them) 9 games last year.

15 TDs in a 17 game season is backup type s**t. Even Chris Ponder threw for 18 TDs the season AP went off and got his 2k season.

It's like he's pumping up Trey and also knocking him in the same post lol.

Good post, 81.

Not that this is a big concern but does anyone know why they haven't signed Trey yet? With the way rookie contracts are slotted now it seems like it would be a pretty easy deal.

Jimmy most certainly is not great, his high INT % shows this. He makes plenty of mistakes all the same.
Just heard that Richard Sherman was arrested in Seattle for domestic violence burglary. He was denied bail. Sorry but I was on this thread when I heard it.

This proves Lance should be QB2 until garbage time or injuries

Lol I think he's being a little dramatic, but he's for sure pro-lance.

he's been regarded as the smartest QB in this draft by many and that's saying something with everyone else that was in this class.

you can see on the film he understands coverages and protection calls. His OC at NDSU talks about what he has to do in that system…which was high end stuff for any college QB let alone a 19 yr old. Quincy Avery, who teaches a ton of high end QBs said Lance's football IQ is the highest he's ever trained with.

you're last sentence is funny…ya'll want him to sit for a yr and the only way he can prove to you he can play is by….playing
