Geez, I just saw that. Not the best phrasing I've seen.

This response though lol

Classic. Lombardi has always been a smarmy dick

lol i caught that one also, us as fans as well
complete shame with ppl wide as bleep open, all this arm talent, and the ball is not coming out downfield

I do wonder what the Shanny reaction or response here is
seems beyond a quick fix, they got some decisions to make

I mean when you work that hard on play design, and it works PERFECTLY, but your QB s**ts the bed and doesn't pull the trigger on a wide open WR, it's gotta be maddening. If it was 1-2 times a game (it happens), okay. But there were several like this in one half. Very ugly, can't defend it anymore. Not when we have a guy (and maybe another in Darnold) who sees it and lets it rip.
Pretty sure you will defend it if Purdy starts doing it, like our QBs past

but yes, it's not good missing guys. Especially when the results end with a stalled drive

Had Brock played like Trey last season, he wouldn't have made the team. He certainly wouldn't have gotten the benefit of the doubt like Trey.

Purdy has earned a little leeway, as Jimmy did. Trey hasn't earned any yet.
Purdy has how much leeway if he's looking like the current Trey?

Depends. If we're winning, it could be a whole season. But 3-4 losses in a row playing like that and Steve Young 2.0 is coming in.
Holy crap, not only does this thread have s**t takes, so does the national media. The kid hasn't played much football in almost a year, and injuries have set him back, so I am not surprised he was inconsistent on Sunday. I'll wait until the end of the preseason to make a judgement on where Lance stands with the team.

Idk if we can be over .500 if Purdy is playing like Trey for the year

If Brock play like current Trey, then that would be what Kyle described as "a complete melt down". We would see Darnold sooner than later.

LOL. Trey played 4+ quarters last season. And in the rain. If Brock played like Trey did for that short of time in the rain and we cut him, that would be a front office/coaching issue more than an indictment on the QB.

I think he meant if last pre-season, Purdy played like Trey did this past Sunday, he wouldn't have made the team.

The issue isn't talent. Trey isn't seeing it or doesn't trust what he's seeing. Playing scared. He's like Maverick after Goose died "it doesn't look good" even when he has a perfect shot. Coaching doesn't cure that, he needs to make a change within himself. Or this just isn't the offense for him.

To me, if it's going to get fixed it comes through reps. Watched all of his college plays and he was throwing to guys with space that just isn't going to exist in the NFL. We can't survive with that level of QB play, not factoring the better option(s) we have, so again the problem would be where are the reps going to come from.

That was a big concern of mine regarding his film in college, nearly every completion/touchdown was to someone wide open. I'm not saying he can't make tight window throws but he has to have full confidence jn what he js seeing and his ability to hit it, cause wide open throws are few and far between in the league - you need to be able to hit tight windows consistently.

That makes a little more sense, aside from the fact that a preseason is longer than one game.

What an a*****e.

This is the crap I'm talking about…WTF are people's problem.

What? Lol. It is part of being a professional athlete. You crap on players all the time. You crap on Darnold and he is a better QB than Lance at this moment. Lance has been hurt and it slowed his development, but they don't wait around for you in the pros.

I don't know, man. That all-22 was UGLY. How slow does the game need to be to see two wide open curls on the same play? Doesn't get any easier than that. And it happened several times. His only successful plays were first read quick outs and play action roll outs to the flat. Not winning many games doing that.

And where will these reps come from? Seems like HIS best shot is with a different team.

And just to play devils advocate, almost all of the TD passes we had in the past 5 years have come to receivers who were wide open too (aside from the dump offs that WRs like Deebo took to the house based on raw athleticism). Its not like Jimmy was threading the needle very often. Shanny schemes players wide open. Thats what he does.

If I was an internet scout I'd make an article about every single player drafted being a bust. I'd be hitting at about 90%.

That was more of a religious article than anything else.
