Yep. He definitely missed some open plays on Sunday. I still believe its because he is a touch late with everything. Hope the game slows down for him, so he can really show if he has it or doesnt have it.

I don't know, man. That all-22 was UGLY. How slow does the game need to be to see two wide open curls on the same play? Doesn't get any easier than that. And it happened several times. His only successful plays were first read quick outs and play action roll outs to the flat. Not winning many games doing that.

And where will these reps come from? Seems like HIS best shot is with a different team.

Yeah I dont know that his reps will come with our team. In fact, I hope they dont because if they do, that will mean Purdy isnt who we think he is (or hurt).

Its just very obvious it takes a while for the game to slow down for a prospect QB. And 4+ games is not enough for that to have happened. I know it didnt look very good, and I never claimed otherwise. I just think given the circumstances, the over the top reactions are unwarranted. I expect him to be better next week.

Even after three years in the system though? That's the part that's so odd to me. He looked MORE lost than ever before. Would be interesting to be in the film room with Kyle and the QB's.

Being in the same system is not the same thing as getting game reps. The speed of the game is what he needs to adjust to. If Trey looks like he did Sunday all preseason long, then the "he looks more lost than ever before" comment I will be able to buy a little more than I do now. He hasnt played since September and is coming off a bad injury. Lets see how the rest of the preseason shakes out.

He took mental reps and should know where wide open guys are though after 3 years in the offense. The wide open guys he didn't throw to are on tape

Or where to NOT go with the ball in cover 2. That's probably the most disappointing part of his play, the other stuff was just being being hesitant and timid but mis reading defenses is what can become concerning.

What misreads did you see? I saw him hesitate a couple of times and a window closed. Even on the interceptdown, Kyle said the read was correct it just closed up. Jonny's breakdown didnt show a bunch of misreads. He just didnt pull the trigger a few times when he should have.

15:47 "this is the kind of stuff that will make Kyle Shannahan punch himself in the face"

lol i caught that one also, us as fans as well
complete shame with ppl wide as bleep open, all this arm talent, and the ball is not coming out downfield

I do wonder what the Shanny reaction or response here is
seems beyond a quick fix, they got some decisions to make

I mean when you work that hard on play design, and it works PERFECTLY, but your QB s**ts the bed and doesn't pull the trigger on a wide open WR, it's gotta be maddening. If it was 1-2 times a game (it happens), okay. But there were several like this in one half. Very ugly, can't defend it anymore. Not when we have a guy (and maybe another in Darnold) who sees it and let's it rip.

It's here where legendary coaches are made. The coach (in this case Kyle) has to see what Trey can become with more coaching and development, versus just giving up. Now, clearly if Trey doesn't have the talent - from the Git Go, then do what Walsh generally does with problems like that. He cuts/trades them. Kyle has to be patient with Trey, if he can see that Trey has the talent worth developing. I can see the talent. He's flashed it on occasion. The problem is the inconsistency. The only way that I know of to cure inconsistency is practice over and over and over etc... There's no shortcuts to being good at something. He has the arm and the body to play at an elite level, it's now just a matter of developing that touch, timing, and anticipation and once that happens watch out. It comes down to reps, more reps, and reps some more.

Meanwhile, with 50% more time than Allen, Trey once again looked like a deer in the headlights. On pass plays, he always looks surprised at what is happening after the ball is hiked.

I think our oline will be fine, as long as the right QB is on the field.

The one where he threw it to the flat on cover 2. It's the play ocho and McCoy broke down.
Lol I actually feel bad for Trey. Must suck to be a young man fighting for your career and have all this smack talked about you and a good portion of it is just unfair or unnecessary.

i understand it comes with the job and he's getting paid really well, but still, he's a human. I think it would f**k with Anyones mental health. I really hope he rebounds this week and stays off social media

Watch the breakdown videos on YouTube. He missed a few and took unnecessary sacks where he can throw it away. Even the TD and missed INT he starred down the WR and waited to long and threw it to the Raiders DB

Perhaps he shares your attitude, which would explain why he's not getting any better even as he gets more time in the system.

we should at least wait to see how the following two games play out before saying he doesn't belong in the league. Lol let these things play out. We can say he had a bad game but let's hold it on any further than that until we see the next two performances.
