That's how I feel too. You've seen fields flash some really special things, and you've seen him struggle, but you've seen it in him. I haven't seen Lance flash anything special in his few games. He may have it, I just agent seen it in the few games he's played. Then again, it's only a few games.lol

The funny thing about this Fields talk is that for the first handful of games, Fields looked horrible as a passer. Just awful. I dont think he flashed anything special in his first handful of games.

Now Fields has 25 starts under his belt. Lance has 4. And yet people wonder why Fields looks further along in his development.

Yeah, I mean, it definitely makes you wonder. Lance wouldn't be the first raw prospect that looked horrific and then turned things around. It certainly doesn't look good right now, but I'd like to at least see at minimum some bounce back this preseason.

IDK what we'll do with him after this season if things don't get better. Would a trade even be possible? Do we cut him? Does the staff still think he has a shot in the long-long term? If so, do they keep him as QB3 on a reworked super low-cost deal next year? Lance would have to know he ain't getting a better deal anywhere else at that point if he hasn't shown anything still.

Hmmm. Do you feel that Lamar Jackson has been doing what you outline for the duration of his career thus far?

I dont think Jackson can survive in his new offense to which he will asked to be a QB
and read defenses, go through progressions and make throws when it counts.

Remember Roman....he gone.

You don't remember this?
He did stuff like this every time we played him.

It's about having athleticism right out of the box, that TL doesn't have, not even close. If you watched Fields in 2022, they got him on the move, using his legs, and that opened up his pass game. Now defenders have to bail on their zones, to come up and deal with his run threat, and he gets guys wide open that way. I would say having an off the charts trait, his run ability, has led to his development as a player and passer. We see this vs us on the Pettis TD, he gets two rushers to almost collide, escapes, buys time, our guys bail on coverage, and it is wide open.

Different type of disasters and at least treys teammates seem to like him, but disasters nonetheless

The Bears went 3-14 last year. If Lance played all last year and the 49ers went 3-14 you would be calling for his head.
Yet Fields gets praise from you guys. Kind of hilarious.

Clearly I was talking about his throwing.

Well I thought fields flashed special ability within his early games, but was obviously raw and struggling as a passer. I think you can have a bad game but flash certain things during the game that shows you have the ability to be elite but that he isn't there yet.

i viewed both as very raw passers but I thought fields had the elite mobility (second to only Lamar jackson). I also thought fields was more accurate. I really liked fields and was hoping we would get him but he was raw as a passer - still kinda is. It'll be interesting to see how he does.

also, fields has been on a terrible team. Literally the worst team in the league. Lance was on the opposite side of the spectrum with great coaching and elite talent all around him. So I view it as apples and oranges.

I thought Zach Wilson was going to be a bust from the get go. He throws a pretty ball but that's all I liked about him. I was glad he wasn't even in the Convo to be able to get him. Such a d bag

I dont think Trey Lance goes 3-14 with the 2022 49er roster.

I think I would have to respectfully disagree with that proposed caveat. Though there were certainly those who took a more tempered approach to the question there was a lot of, let's just say, "unsubstantiated" belief in Trey's potential from the moment he got drafted. I distinctly remember commenting on it at the time because, quite frankly I don't recall having ever seen anything quite like it.

During his first training camp posters were saying things like, "Oh, he's going to be an elite runner in this league", "Oh, he probably already knows the playbook better than Jimmy." "Oh, he's going to open up the playbook downfield", which may have had an element of truth in it but based on Purdy's play last year, which Kyle has praised, it doesn't seem like the downfield came is an integral part of Kyle's scheme. The shots are there, but the priority seems to be getting the ball out of your hands quickly and accurately and let the playmakers do their thing. I realize that is a very abridged assessment, but I think it is essentially true. It's not a mad bomber offense.

I think the bottom line is that there are a lot of people in here who will never forgive Jimmy for missing that pass to Sanders and so they build up these narratives around the idea that some raw, untested player, is going to be better than him because, well because, he missed that pass to Sanders, gosh darn it. Just my take mind you.

f**k......Jimmy whining still.

Right, but at least he flashed something special. Isn't the point of wanting to play 11-11 ball to have elite athleticism? I thought he had some really nice pass plays too but I don't remember if it was in his first few games or not.

I think the point is trey has never flashed anything (running, passing, whatever)
