So Sam gets to play with the starting oline and recievers?... and Trey gets what in the second half?

Grant will have a field day with this one. Kyle is making it too easy for him.

I'm not sure which starters, if any, will be playing. I can't imagine the starters will be in for long, if at all.

all grant does is cry. If Lance needs everything perfect and ideal all the time, then he's not cut out for the league. If he wants to go first, then he should be playing better and earning that playing time. Not bein timid and gunshy then pouting if he doesn't get a chance to go first next game.

Grant having a field day is fine. Couldn't think of anything meaning less. They'd probably have success doing the opposite of what Grant wants on principle, with no other information.

Trey could have lit it up vs the Raiders and he would still be going 2nd vs the Broncos. It was always the plan. Honestly he should be playing every snap of the pre-season. People keep saying you can't start Trey and give him much needed reps because this team is a SB contender. So what's the excuse to not giving him much needed reps in meaningless pre-season games?

Prepping players that might contribute to the team first? Trey's development just can't be a priority in any fashion (at the cost of what's best for the team), and I've argued myself that he should get the bulk of the reps.

If Darnold is going to be QB2, giving him as much reps as possible is going to give him a better chance to play well if we need him.

I agree. I don't know where they're going to get him reps if they don't let him play. I assume Darnold plays the first half this week. I hope Trey pays the 2nd half then Brock starts game 3 with the starters. Then let Trey finish. It should be Brock this week but now that there are only 3 pre season games it's different than it used to be.

That is true imo. What is best for Trey and what is best for the team, are often 2 dif things. I always feel the HC has a mandate to do what is best for the team.
What I don't understand is this:

If Trey is "pressing" because of the pressure, wouldn't he have pressed last preseason knowing he was THE GUY, with zero chance of Garoppolo being the starter for essentially 95% of training camp until that restructure was done?

Kyle went all on in Lance last year without certainty with Garoppolo.....Garoppolo very easily could've been traded, and then Lance would've been the only QB to trust (Purdy wasn't even an idea until the Dolphins game, unless Kyle is the super all knowing God haha).

I don't know man.........I've watched prior Lance preseasons and all his regular season tape.......he's played better than what we've seen. Even the Bears game looked better than this.

You guys don't remember Garoppolo's first preseason snaps post ACL, where it looked like he didn't belong either against that Denver pass rush? The super bowl season I might add....

Well we know Kittle won't be in lol, he's in his usual two week injury list

Sam is QB2 and has the talent to push Brock for QB1 with this roster. Watch, it will happen. Trey is QB3 if he is lucky and will be on another team next year. As their QB2 or QB3. Got to give reps to who will actually make a difference on the 49ers.

When I went back and watched, yes while it wasn't as bad as my emotions told me, it was still REALLY bad IMO.

There could be reasons for that that I can admit I wasn't giving enough consideration to, but that said, I've got to see him do much better than this by the end of preseason at minimum. Ideally bouncing back asap on Saturday.

There was errors that were not on Trey, mistakes were made in routs....almost certainly....

Having said that... there was more then 3 bad throws...my 8 am brain just woke up brain can think of at least 4. The overthrow on check down, the one handed catch in the middle of the field, and the two near INT.

Those are on top of his timing issues, missed plays and likely confusion with coverage.

We can give him credit for his three "high level completions", but 2 of them are against a prevent defense with less then 30 seconds before half time needing to drive the length of the field.....

Nah, that game was bad.... Trey will live to fight another day. but he has to learn from that game and push forward.

To me the biggest issue is he still has almost a complete lack of anticipation, and really does not progress well down the passing chart.

Some posters have been upset that Trey never got a shot this year to compete for QB1.....yeah....if this game is indicative of what the 49ers have seen in practice.... I get it.... I get why he is not competing for QB1.

This game Trey had a hard time processing down the passing chart. He is slow to do it, and has no anticipation of where the defender will be in relation to his targets. You contrast that with Brock finding Kittle in the playoffs making up his own routs and being somewhat open somewhere he is not suppose to be and hitting him for a crucial chunk play....it does look like these two have completely different abilities to see what is taking place in front of them.

There's an element of cleverness that is missing from Lance's game and jonnydel pointed it out well in his video breakdown - eye manipulation versus zone coverage. I don't know at what point a QB starts doing this but it must be done at the NFL level. Trust the pre snap read and while dropping back look somewhere else to open the passing lane to the route most likely to be open versus that coverage.

100%. That's a thing Brock had in spades and Kyle and John talked about it last season when he was playing. How well he was doing with eye manipulation. Jimmy would over-rely on it sometimes thinking he could give a quick look off and jam a ball in and he'd set himself up for a pick.

All the reports from camp are Darnold is terrible when the first read isn't open. Brock was excellent going through progressions last year. That alone will keep it from happenning.

Why would anyone care about what Grant Cohn thinks? Out of all the people whose opinions matter to me, his is way, way down the list, somewhere behind the actress that played the mom on ALF, the third base coach for the Colorado Rockies and Carrot Top.
