Atleast those teams let Darnold play and develop. What's the point of being on a loaded team with great coaching if you are never given a chance to play? Trey has started 3 games in the last 11 months and 4 in the last 20 months. One being a pre-season game and another being just a quarter. I bet Mahomes would even struggle abit if he basically went an entire year without starting a game.

I agree with what he's saying. Although Lance looked like 💩 on Sunday. It's not over for him. He can still show out in practice and next two games, and solidify himself as QB2.

Also didn't Kyle say he judges practice more than pre-season games?

I believe he said the joint practice but I'm assuming he does it with regular practice too. Look, I'm sure Kyle wasn't thrilled with lances performance (or possibly 99% of the teams performance), but I think it's an over reaction after one game. Let's just see how Lance does in the next two games.

personally, I think he took himself out of the lead for QB2 with that performance, but it's not over yet. He can still rebound and I hope it puts some "eff it" in lances system to stop over thinking and just play.

Yup, the fans that just want to hate Trey because they understand literally nothing about football and overreacted about a preseason game owe the entire front office and high football IQers an apology for their constant whining.

This post is what Silver / Rich Eisen were talking about

What's funnier, is that some still think opinions on Lance are based on one preseason game lol

or based on some type of hate

I have always thought that Greg Cosell is one of the best analysts out there. I remember him saying about Alex Smith "He can't throw a 5 yard out."

I thought some of his comments crossed journalistic professionalism. Marc Adams posted a good article about it. I also think what Steve Young discusses has merit. I understand because of the draft capital spent there are quite a few impatient people, however, I will continue to trust the folks in the locker room and organization until they say otherwise. My two cents for what it's worth.

You have a problem with Greg Cosell's comments? Can you please elaborate what was not professional about what he said.

I don't think there were any issues.

Fair enough. I guess we can agree to disagree. I do respect Cosell's football insight, etc. but he crossed the line with the whole baby, etc. stuff and apparently I am not flying solo on that either. Maybe it was a joke, but definitely out of context for someone of his stature for what he does. But let's move on to actual 49er football discussions…..
Cutting or trading Trey makes no sense, unless the money somehow effects getting Bosa back ASAP or keeping BA.

Trey is probably worth more if he walks away under his own terms and the 49ers get a compensatory pick. I am no savant at the Compensatory pick scheduling, but at Trey's salary it should be on the higher end of range. Let's guess a 4th rounder since the only thing he is missing is the playing time (a secondary factor).

I don't think it makes any sense to pay more to cut him then it does to keep him, he has not been a distraction... he is not whining to the media, if the media was not blabbering about Trey...they would be Blabbering about someone else... Soon enough Trey will head to the bench and be forgotten until next offseason.

Does anyone think other teams are going to pony up a 2nd or 3rd round pick for Trey?

Without a 2nd or 3rd round pick, the only thing to really "gain" is a roster spot.

Got the wrong cat, you're referencing Michael Lombardi

That 20 million cap hit is negotiable as was Jimmy's last year with the 49ers. That 5th year option, should Kyle exercise it, does in a sense lock Trey with the 49ers, and that option can be renegotiated from a position of strength by Kyle if Trey's not progressed to where he's NOT getting offers from other teams commensurate with what Kyle can give him as QB2/QB3 for the 49ers.

you keep posting this but it isnt true. so let me post it again...

the 5th year option is A NON-NEGOTIABLE FIXED AMOUNT.

I think what he means is the option can be declined and replaced with a renegotiated salary/extension.

I think it'll take a lot more that that performance to take him out of the lead for QB2. Just don't see Kyle or Lynch making a move that would show them to be SOOO wrong for not only drafting him, but handing him the keys to the car last year also. I really don't think Trey CAN play his way out of that spot, but Darnold could play his way into it like Purdy did. Think it's take an awful lot from Darnold to do that though.

He needs to turn it around ASAP or else the criticism aren't going anywhere.
I think the best thing for Trey this upcoming season is to be QB3 and run the Scout team all season. That's a ton of reps where he can let it rip.
