We haven't seen the guy play a meaningful game in two years. At least wait until his first preseason game to start the hype machine. This is ridiculous.

I would not be surprised if Trey's first PS game is 56 YDS passing with 83 rushing yards and 1 rushing TD with an interception.

Not bad for only playing 2 drives I'll take it 😎

thats my point Thats why Jimmy G will start the year. I think they release him next year and we will have ton of cash to spend and shore up some depth.

ANd again i dont think it would be a mistake to start Lance we will see in TC but if i had to place a bet as long a swe are playoff bound i dont think Lance starts outside an injury but i do think he will get a lot more playing time as season goes on especially in 3rd and short and red zone situations

They would have much more cash if they asked him to take a pay cut though...hell they could use that money on upgrading at DB/WR/EDGE or help give Warner an extension.

If they don't think Jimmy is the full year starter then he shouldn't be making $27M. I'd rather not play Lance at all vs giving him some RZ packages that will most likely be him running around...if you're gonna play him let him get legit reps being a QB.

Jimmy G wont accept a pay cut and i wouldn't blame him it would be different if he had the chance to be a full time starter here but he and everyone knows the future is Lance.

Stafford is unquestionably more talented than Jimmy...the only people that would disagree with that are a couple 49er fans. Now he get's a legit squad with a legit HC, if he sucks then there will be plenty of receipts for WooLick to refer too

Stafford has always been a talented QB who almost never came through when needed. Was it only because he was on a bad team? Maybe. But now we will find out.

pretty much...we will find out!

Yes, I feel like it's these takes that forget what make a great QB, a great QB. Plenty of QBs enter the league as top 5 picks because they have "the talent".

Most don't end up looking anywhere near as good as Jimmy - especially in their rookie years - because running/executing an offense is a lot more than just physical talent.

Reminder that the two best QBs in history are Tom Brady & Joe Montana..

Jimmy, in his 27 or so healthy starts, has played much more effectively than Stafford and its not particularly close. Agreed that Detroit is a s**t-show, but Jimmy did it with garbage players in 2017. Everyone also forgets him throwing for 232 & 3 TDs in a half - to Julius Edelman and a bunch of trash in his second start with the Pats. The kid performs.

Will be really hard for Trey to beat him in TC. Especially now that he's multiple years out from that ACL. He obviously wasn't 2017 Jimmy in 2019 post-ACL (arm strength + accuracy we're definitely a notch lower)

Unlike most QBs though, I will say - Treys running abilities increases his floor in this offense 10X

Why wouldn't he? Who's gonna sign him during training camp for say $12M? No one that's who.

Jimmy would be the highest paid backup/bridge QB in football, has a chance to compete for a starter roll and get's to be a FA in 2022.

Reminder that the league isn't the same as it was 10-20 yrs ago….go look at these young QBs that are becoming successful quickly. It's not because they can read every coverage or go through 3 progressions every drop back.

it's because they're physically gifted and use that to help them until they learn the mental side of the game. They're put in a position to be successful.

most top end QBs that fail were either overdrafted or went to a bad team…throw Jimmy on the lions and I don't think people in here would be praising him like they are.

Lions for the majority of Staffords career > 49ers roster and especially offensive weapons in 2017.

Brady won the Super Bowl last year (again!)

So Jimmy looked good with Marquise Goodwin and Louis Murphy Jr, but would look like garbage throwing to Megatron?

NY, spot on. I hope fans 'expect' that kind of performance to start.

And outside of Brady, who this pure in the pocket passer that's crushing it in the league? There isn't anyone...the league is changing and has been for the past 5+ years. Young QBs having success have physical gifts, that help them maintain success until they can understand the nuances of playing QB. When you don't have those physical gifts all you have is the mental side, no rookie or young player is really ready for that. Just ask Josh Rosen who was deemed "pro-ready"

I'm also not talking about Stafford vs Jimmy, I'm saying throw him on a bad roster with bad coaches and see what he does (Lions was just an example) I bet the Jimmy truthers would change their tune a little.

But if you want to talk Stafford, you'll be hard pressed to find anyone that believes Jimmy is better outside of a 49ers fan forum.

Wait the lions have megatron? Thought he retired....pretty sure their WRs are a bunch of no names currently.

So Jimmy looked good with Goodwin/Murphy, but he can't possibly play well vs AZ week 1 because he didn't have anyone to throw the ball too? K
