Which is how big of a difference going into this offseason? We had just Trey and a QB we didn't know if or when he'd be ready. If this scenario plays out and Trey is QB4 than means we started this offseason with a QB4 and a QB we had no idea when and if he'd be available.

I think you're reaching. Just like the JG guys was last offseason thinking Trey would be only legit QB.

But no agility or quickness.

Add Mark Schlereth, LeSean McCoy, Murph and Mac to the list, myself also. It's almost like that story, the Emperors New Clothes. For years I heard he's got run ability. Where is it? I don't see it. He gets ran down by front seven defenders, he doesn't make anyone miss in space, he gets beaten to the spot by front seven guys over and over. Who has more short area quickness between Lance or the last guy in the draft, BP? Real question. I don't know I'd probably say BP does.

BPs short area quickness is elite, it destroys Lance's. But scouts aren't paying attention to that kind of stuff. You can see Lance's subpar quickness on the field, it looks like he is in quicksand and he regularly gets beaten to the spot by defensive lines and gets taken down when trying to scramble past the line of scrimmage

It's a consistent pattern of misreading our situation and the market in relation to each player.

Even after Jimmy re-structured, these guys thought it was just a means to trade him easier instead of the very obvious point that we wanted him. His contract told the story.
Yall worried about next year... what about this Super Bowl season?

Folks really comfortable with Sam Darnold taking over for Brock, if something happens to him... Sam's history of turning the ball over. Real comfortable with f**king Allen?

Even if Sam wins the backup role, imo he won't, if something happens to him or he plays like his old self.. at least the team would have the QB they have developmented these past few years... a QB who actually came in and helped win a must win game to keep our playoff hopes alive.

Unless we get one hell of a trade deal, it ain't worth trading Trey.

There is also the saving face factor. Trading him for a late rounder is some serious egg on KS and JL's respective faces. I think that's the only reason he's still on the roster today - the fact that the team mortgaged a couple of drafts to get him and that decision turned out to be a historically royal F-up. Admit it, if he was the last pick in that draft, he'd be on some other team right now. I don't think it's his playing ability that has him still on our team. It's his circumstances.

Putting aside the idea of whether or not it's worthwhile to trade Trey now, the very likely reality is we aren't winning a Super Bowl depending on any of our backups. We aren't playing the '21 Texans in the playoffs to get there.

It's Brock or bust at the position. We need our QB1 just like every other NFL team. Don't let a year where our depth chart was upside down confuse that idea.

Agreed whole heartedly. Sam and Lance I could see winning the same amount of games as the other. It would just look different. Those games wont result in a deep play off run with either of those two IMO

+1000 I've been saying this for a while. If Brock goes out for the season, say goodbye to the Super Bowl.

it only worked last season cause our worst qb was QB1, our second best was QB2, and our best QB was QB3. It's that simple.

99.9% of the time, if you're in QB3 - good luck just trying to not get delay of game penalties.

The point is a backup QB is a backup QB. The vast vast majority of the teams aren't comfortable if their starting QB got injured.

You really think Sam won't win the backup role over Trey, like for real? I would love to place bets on that!

people who are poo-pooing the possibility of Trey getting traded could be in for a surprise. Trey's cap hit in 2024 is $10M again.

I wouldnt poo-poo the possibility of Trey getting traded next offseason. There is a possibility there. I just think him getting traded today (or soon), makes no sense.

Themes:
- Trey skipping on easy plays. Struggling with pressure (or perceived pressure) Sometimes he salvages a positive result anyway with his athleticism, but the tape is 'frustrating as hell' and not going to gain a coach's trust.
- He needs to play to get better. He flashed some positives.

This was simply not the performance people want to make it out to be. It's no disrespect to Trey but we cakewalk this game with any QB who doesn't give the game away by turning it over. It was a below average starter level performance. And again, we can't afford to give him the time to get better (hopefully) and still compete for a SB, and now we don't have to.

No one's forcing you to theorize about 2024 and 2025.

Only way is if a starting QB goes down with an injury in the preseason and someone gets desperate.

if Shanny thinks Allen would be better suited to be QB3, it would "make sense"
