Dallas Cowboys QB Trey Lance Thread

It's much harder to evaluate a player's performance in pre season games than it used to be. So many teams don't play the starters so you end u seeing a QB playing with backups against starters or backups. No QB will look as good throwing to 3rd string receivers against 1st or 2nd string DBs behind a 2nd string O line.

it's how Purdy made the team and they ate Sud's contract in doing so.
I'm rooting for Lance today. He seems to have a positive history of rebounding from poor performances in practice.

man if he just loosens up and says "eff it", I think we would see a whole different player in a much more positive way.

Yes. Just one game I'd like to.see him just rip it. Everytime I watch him it feels the offense is not jelling and moving in slow motion. He just needs to let loose.

I feel like he's thinking too much, which is normal for a young player - especially one that's as inexperienced as he is. But if he is going to start performing at this stage, he needs to just let loose. He has the arm to drill balls into tight windows. Maybe his accuracy is still a concern but it seems to be much improved.

How many snaps is TL getting tonight?

Looks like he will have to split with Brandon Allen in some fashion in the second half, the side by side comparison game for the QB3 battle

With Allen missing practice this week and Brock getting a series to start, it's possible Allen may not get any time.

Look, based on his experience level, he does NOT look horrible. This narrative is nothing but asshat hater talk. But he's not going to get that experience he needs.

I think that's the truth, unfortunately. He's not gonna get that experience that he needs to actually improve.

total mismanagement of him and the draft process. I wanted fields but would he ever gotten that YR+ to develop? I think kyle would have forced him to stay in the pocket and that would have killed him all the same.

I agree. He looks on par with his level of experience. I hope he finds success one day, I don't wish for anyone to fail.

I wanted Fields too but it's moot now.

Should have passed on both and waited for Brock.

You sure you weren't bitten by a radioactive spider?

I mean, if we are playing the Shoulda Game, waiting for Brock was the play.
I am not bummed about how things have turned out, I am happy to have Brock over Fields and I have not given up on Trey.

Agree 💯%, that's a deep QB bench with Trey and Brock. Trey drafted in 2021 gave the QB bench some physical (Mahomes level) firepower and Brock in 2022 gave the QB bench a NFC Championship level QB. Getting *BOTH* for 3 first round picks and a 7th is a friggen bargain, in my book.

Here's the Hershel walker deal, and getting Brock, I think, is almost equivalent to getting a Hershel Walker value franchise player.
From Wikipedia.

  • Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1990
  • Minnesota's 6th round pick in 1990
  • Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1991 (conditional on cutting Solomon)
  • Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1991 (conditional on cutting Howard)
  • Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1992 (conditional on cutting Holt)
  • Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1992 (condition met by trading away Nelson)
  • Minnesota's 3rd round pick in 1992 (conditional on cutting Stewart)

Agree 💯%, Lance has to just improve from the Dallas game to get my vote! I think he can!

Didn't Allen miss time cause his baby was born?

i think Brock & Co play the first series or two (at most), then darnold finishes the half. Lance starts after halftime and depends on how he is playing, but I anticipate Allen will start the fourth quarter. Lance may get some early in the fourth if the drive is going how Kyle likes.

Dallas game? Do you mean the raiders game?

honestly, our teams overall performance was pretty bad (not just Lance). I'm hoping to see our team play more crisp. I really want to see Bell have another strong game.

I originally thought that he didn't have a shot to make the team but he looks like a solid young player. I like what I've seen from him. Same for Graham.

Me too! Go have some fun again. Forget all the noise. It's OK to make a mistake. Let it rip.

OOps. brain fart, I meant the Raiders game. Agree with you on Bell and Graham, hope they shine. My main focus would be on Manning and that OLIne. As much as I like most of the offensive line - it's the right tackle and the offensive line depth guys that give me some trepidation. I want Poe to have a better game than the Raider game.

I'm gonna guess Darnold comes in for one series after half to give him a whole half, and it's valued to give a guy the feel of coming back in after a halftime interruption.

Our o line depth worries me more than any other position. Even if manning pans out, we really don't have any reliable depth if our starters go down. I actually hope when cut downs happen, we make a trade.

i anticipate we will have 2-3 guys we can't keep cause our roster is so stacked, so I think we will pick up some mid to late round picks. Hoping we can get a quality o line depth player
