Alex Smith, on the media crucifying Lance after Sunday's game:

"I think it's incredibly unfair."

"I identify a lot with him," Smith said this week on SiriusXM NFL Radio. "You can see him carrying a lot of weight."

"Go to the facts," Smith said of Lance. "The guy has played five games in the last three years. Five football games. He's 23 years old. I think he still has an incredibly bright future."

I mean.. We all know how much "Alexcuses" was thrown around so much here in dismissive response to valid reasoning/explanations of what was happening -- stuff like the above would have surely been on that list.

I don't know what's gonna happen in Lance's future. I definitely hated almost everything I saw Sunday. But to be fair, Young and Alex Smith both know a thing or two about being a top picked QB, struggling and then later having success in the NFL, and I think they have some points.

Time will tell if they're right and things eventually turn in Lance's favor.

thing is if Sammy balls out tonight, or is just competent and boring at worse, it won't matter what TL does in the second half

Lance is obviously carrying a lot of weight and frustration right now. The NFL is a brutal place and it's a "what have you done for me recently" kinda place. He just needs to say "eff it" and i think he will see progress.

man if he just loosens up and says "eff it", I think we would see a whole different player in a much more positive way.

The problem with this is all we was ever really given was the numbers in practice. If you just look at the numbers from last week he played a hell of a game. When you watch the game it says something different. So we don't truly know if he bounced back or not really.

Why I refrained from posting until I could see him play with my own eyes.

Alex is one of the smartest and most insightful nfl personalities out there, he's probably right

True, I'm just trying to be optimistic. I don't really expect much from Lance but I think he can be better than what he's shown. I think he can ultimately be a high end game manager (once he's fully developed), a long the lines of a Dak. He just has a really low floor and hasn't been able to develop his game through playing, so it's been rough. I think he will play better though than he did last week.

It's also why stats are only a fraction of the way someone played. Reminds me of the Texans game, he didn't have a terrible game, but he didn't really play all that well either - he played alright. But if you looked at the stats you'd think he had a really good game.

when it came to jimmy, what he did really really well, typically didn't show up on the stat sheet. So it was easy to beat on him with his statistics. He had limitations but he equally was really good at a lot of the little things that it takes to be a winning QB.

i just want to see Lance be confident and rip it. Live with whatever happens. I'd much rather see him make mistakes but take chances, than to overthink and make mistakes cause he is too scared to take a chance.

What sucks about the low floor is the only way it goes up is by playing. I think he'll be good if he could ever strong together some starts and go through say 8 weeks of consecutive starts, 1st team reps, watching film, seeing live action, etc. Brock Purdy is great for us, but the worst thing that could've happened to Trey.

With that said, I do think if there were no Purdy they would be fine with him starting. They were last year and nothing has changed except a ready right now QB being available.

Unfair?

I dunno, maybe misplaced is a better thing to say....

Alex Smith nor Trey Lance should be anywhere near starting in the NFL when they did.

That is not on Alex or Trey per say, but the criticism is legitimate....but it should aimed at the people that decided to take them as high as they where taken and the people that touted them as starting QBs.
lol ....deleted.... wrong thread

Lance has a chance to solidify himself as QB2 if he has a strong performance this game.
I see Trey playing majority of the game next week. Doesn't fair well for him
Well this looked better at least
Somethings weird with Lance. Like he's too tight or something. He's looking but not seeing in the pocket. Tryna read the introduction on a 2 shelf bookcase. Just play man.

Yeah.

That last drive was pretty good until Aiyuk killed the 2pt conversion try.
A couple careless throws out there. The actual rhythm throws out there seem alot more crisp than last year. The maturation process before our eyes.
