Take the above dart. What difference does it make if he's throwing an incredible ball in tight coverage to Willie Snead with a #4 cb with tight covgor aiyuk with a #1 cb tight? You aren't going to get coverage much better than the above, be it a #1 cb or #4.

I was highly critical and disappointed in trey last week but tonight's performance has me excited

This is also true. On plays where he has huge windows or all day, then the criticism makes sense. But on that beautiful dart with blanket coverage, the throw was elite no matter when or against who.

I think if Trey can play how he did tonight we wasted money on darnold.

I think darnold does not suffer from the tentativeness that Trey does and gets rid of the ball quicker. He operates more consistently than trey.

I do not think that it's worth the money we paid darnold though. He's not that much better at this point.

Trey showed on the last couple drives his upside.

If he can get rid of that tentativeness he'd be a starter and damn good player.

At this point he's not worth the money he's paid, he's not worth the 5th year option either. But since we already committed, if the coaches new Trey could play how he did tonight we wasted money on darnold.

That could have shored up other spots.

Nah man. We needed five QBs last year. We need both of them as well as Allen lying around somewhere.
Oh shocking. The Trey Lance sucks crowd playing the "he was facing 3rd and 4th stringers"

Somehow when Darnold and Allen did it last week it wasn't brought up at all.

Typical garbage.

How about the fact that he's had 2 games in a row for the first time in forever. He's clearly improved his accuracy and some of those throws he made are money whether it's vs first stringers or 4th stringers.

It wasn't all perfect of course but every single one of you brushing off what he did to end that game is lame. Kid had everything stacked up against him after that pick and rebounded and looked absolutely locked in.

Hopefully he builds on that confidence and trusts himself…but gotta avoid the off the backfoot throws into coverage. Can't have that trash from him. He's always done a good job of taking care of the ball. That's just him pressing and trying to avoid sacks after what happened last week. Just throw it away Trey.

It's bad enough moving off of Trey for peanuts and having him thrive elsewhere but imagine the reason you give to why you moved off him is Sam Darnold?

Haha. Some think we are going to move him because of Brandon Allen, actually.

Darnold is a talented QB. That's why he went when he did and many thought he should've gone first overall but he wasn't anything special yesterday and right now he's the first read QB many claim Lance is.

I always felt Darnold's signing was because they didn't know Brock would be back the way he has been.

No matter how it shakes out this QB room gives us a chance to win it all this year assuming we can avoid key injuries. But once again…Sam is a known product. Brock and Trey are still improving.

One of my favorite throws of the game. That accuracy blew me away.

I know one of those incompletions was a flat out careless throw-away play that was almost INT'd,...and the same thing with that throw over the middle. There was the throw-away that made it to the LOS. But So 3 careless throws I counted.... and not really much inaccurate, but I'll have to rewatch to see.

Against 4th stringers bruh….

Yet Darnold was getting praise for doing well vs 4th stringers last week. And he didn't do nearly as well vs them as Trey did this week.

Darnold played better this week vs the 2nd stringers than Trey did last week. Darnold is better. Trey is a scrub.
No. Last week was Trey when he was second guessing himself and hesitating. This week is when Trey he is decisive. In neither case does it have anything to do with the competition. This is mental.

I think Steve Young is right. Trey has been choking under the pressure. If he gets past that, he will not be a "scrub."

The best thing I saw from him last night is that he had the big mistake, but he was able to shake it off and come back strong. I was worried that if he wasn't able to that, he would not even have a chance at the #2 position. Really happy from him and I feel a lot better about our QB room going into the season. Hopefully our QB's have another strong outing in the final preseason game.
Trey definitely ended better than he started on those last 2 drives. My issue though is, (going off of what I believe i saw and not rewatching the game) he struggled when we ran Kyle's basic offense. Wasn't until we had to run the uptempo stuff did he look good.

It was a nice step forward nonetheless. I still think he struggles with Kyle's basic offense.

Casuals saying he did it because he was against 3rd and 4th stringers. He made numerous big boy throws and the best throws in the game by far.

No wobbles either his accuracy has improved greatly. Man needs his reps.

Ball placement
So proud of the kid for how he stepped up last night! That game set up perfectly to allow not only Trey to redeem himself, but Moody as well. Go Niners!
I still feel like the biggest tell of the game was the penalty that BA got when Trey and Latu scored the last TD. Where are the folks who were saying teammates weren't fond of him now?
