To play Darnold or Allen is being dumb as f**k regarding your top 3 pick investment.
People willfully forgetting it has been Darnold who has been the bust not Trey with 55 starts of trash. If Trey played like Darnold over 55 starts I'd have been done with his ass too.
I feel about Darnold the way I did about Jimmy - I don't want to see him take another snap for the 49ers unless Brock and Trey go down to injury. Dumb ass Kyle passing on looking at Mahomes and his Kirk Cousins crush and now Darnold being here taking away reps from Trey when he's had 4 years of reps and suckage in real games and two teams didn't even want his ass. Not to mention apparently he always has had good numbers in the preseason so any decent play really means jack s**t w him.
Darnold completely outplayed Trey so far in the preseason IMO. I think in terms of turnover worthy plays Darnold had 0, while Trey had like 5 or 6.
At the end of the day what is important it is not what Trey needs, but rather what is good for the team. If Darnold is the frontrunner for the QB2 role he certainly should play vs Chargers.
The appearances in the pre season are so sparse that you can't judge much from what we see. Playing a series or two and then letting the other guy do the same doesn't allow players to find a groove. Notice w Trey started kind of rocky ut found a groove a little late in the 4th. It's not uncommon to see QBs start out red hot and then start missing a few or start ice cold and then get hot. Eventually they all end up completing between 55% and 70%. With the shorter pre season and the fear of playing starters it's now the practices where coaches are making their decisions.
