If you've noticed, Griese and John Lynch have done the same thing. It's kinda surprised me, I've been waiting for them to say he's running the offense really well, sharp, confident etc but they just keep repeating the same thing "he looks much improved" but what the hell does that mean?
the only qb they've openly praises this off season has been Purdy, I find that interesting. Trey is definitely improved but the team isn't giving anything to which way they're leaning with Trey and darnold. Seems like they've been really careful with that.
I think Trey is a good dude, so I am perplexed by how management sounds.
To me, it sounds like managers that have put someone on a write up, and they are careful in how they talk about the employee.
I know sports has a whole additional layer of phycology that lays over the top of that, and marketing has a layer that lays over the top of that as well.
I wonder if this is just a motivational tactic, or if this is just creating a buffer of deniability incase Trey "clicks" sometime soon or leaves the franchise sometime soon.
If he clicks and becomes the undeniable starter, the narrative is going to be something like "we said he was improving but we have to manage the expectations with young players"
If he flops, the narrative is going to be something like "we saw improvement, but not nearly enough that we could depend on him week to week in this offense"
Either way we are clearly seeing soft praise for Trey from the franchise, that is clearly better publicly calling out his faults.
